Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Core)

About the Role

This role sits on the core engineering team responsible for the distributed syncing engine that moves massive volumes of customer data across a multi-cloud, multi-region infrastructure. You will tackle hard problems at the intersection of performance, reliability, and scale, and your work will directly shape the capabilities that customers and internal teams depend on every day.

What You'll Do

• Own and deliver complex backend infrastructure projects end to end, from design through production.

• Analyze and optimize every stage of the data syncing pipeline to improve throughput and reduce latency.

• Architect and build streaming sync capabilities to complement existing batch processing, supporting sources such as webhooks and queues.

• Identify and resolve current and future scalability bottlenecks, designing systems to handle the next order of magnitude of growth.

• Contribute to a low-latency caching layer that enables real-time personalization on top of data warehouses, targeting sub-30ms p90 response times at millions of QPS.

• Extend multi-region and multi-cloud backend infrastructure to support new regions and data residency requirements.

• Work directly with customers to diagnose and solve their hardest scaling challenges.

• Influence team and company roadmap through strong product thinking and engagement with product specifications.

What We're Looking For

• 5 or more years of backend engineering experience building and scaling distributed systems at high-growth companies.

• Staff-level or equivalent seniority, with a track record of rapid progression at growth-stage companies.

• Deep expertise in distributed systems design, large-scale architecture, and performance optimization.

• Hands-on experience building event collection or data streaming services using tools such as Kafka, message queues, SQL databases, Kubernetes, and Docker.

• Proven ownership of backend systems scaled through multiple orders of magnitude of growth.

• Familiarity with infrastructure-layer internals, including how systems like Spark, Flink, or Kafka are built, is a strong plus.

• Experience building data sync or data movement engines that process terabytes of data per day at scale is a strong plus.

• Strong CS fundamentals, ideally from a rigorous computer science program or equivalent demonstrated depth.

• Excellent communication skills and comfort working with both engineers and customers.

• Background at a high-velocity startup between Series A and Series D is preferred; purely large-company experience is less of a fit.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $180,000 to $320,000 USD annually. Equity is offered. Visa sponsorship is available.
