IT STARTS HERE

Santander is evolving from a global, high-impact brand into a technology-driven organisation, and our people are at the heart of that journey. Business Solutions CIO sits at the centre of that change, bringing together global solutions, governance and leadership rhythm so that the directorate can operate with clarity, consistency and control.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY

An exciting opportunity is available to join our Finance & Risk Technology team in Enterprise Services as a Software Engineer. Based out of Milton Keynes, Unity Place

Applicants must possess a degree in Digital Technology Solutions or be on track to complete their degree by Q2 2027

The Finance & Risk team within Enterprise Services delivers and supports the technology that underpins Santander UK's financial reporting, risk modelling and regulatory compliance capabilities. The team is at the heart of major strategic programmes — including TSB integration to building automated data pipelines, system integrations and ETL solutions using Python, AWS, Snowflake and Oracle technologies. The team is also driving adoption of Devin,

Santander's group-standard Agentic AI platform, to transform software delivery through intelligent automation of coding, testing and workflow orchestration.

As a Software Engineer in this team, you would contribute across the full Software Delivery Lifecycle — from coding and testing through to implementation and production support. You would progressively take ownership of more complex technical deliverables, build depth in a strategically important financial technology environment, and play an active role in embedding AI-driven engineering practices into everyday delivery.

If you're passionate about technology, cloud engineering and Customer Management, we'd love to hear from you.

THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

  • Work across wider technology teams to establish consistent architectural and engineering standards.
  • Strengthen internal specialist capability and knowledge retention, reducing reliance on external resources and supporting longer-term succession planning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, operational resilience and platform efficiency.
  • Supporting our data-driven transformation through the adoption of cloud-native and open-source technologies.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders, architects, and engineering managers to refine and deliver functional and technical solutions.
  • Ensuring services remain stable, secure, and performant in production by minimising incidents and maximising service quality.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Seeking opportunities to expand knowledge and skills through training, self- study or mentorship and assisting in troubleshooting technical problems. (Required)
  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer. (Required)
  • Experience in back end systems, APIs, databases. (Required)
  • Proficient in SDLC, Waterfall & Agile methodologies. (Required)
  • Great communication/interpersonal skills and able to manage stakeholders at all levels. (Required)
  • Experience working with Agile software development practices, including unit testing, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and CI/CD. (Required)
  • Hands-on experience using tools such as GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, and automated code quality and security scanning tools throughout the software development lifecycle. (Required)
  • Experience supporting and resolving production incidents in a live environment. (Required)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. (Required)

It would also be great if you have

  • Great knowledge of AWS services and event-driven architectures. (Preferred)
  • Experience adopting Agile engineering practices, including Scrum, Kanban, DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing. (Preferred)
  • Exposure to AI-assisted software engineering, Agentic AI tools or AI-enabled development practices. (Preferred)
  • Exposure to DevOps tooling and automation supporting continuous integration and delivery. (Preferred)
