Job Description

Speech and Language Pathologists — Two Positions

Townsville, Queensland

Flexible working hours | Work-from-home options | Relocation assistance

Above-award remuneration | KPI bonus | Additional paid leave

Are you a values-driven Speech and Language Pathologist looking for meaningful work where your clinical expertise can create lasting change?

We are recruiting two Speech and Language Pathologists to join a respected, purpose-led organisation in Townsville. These positions offer the opportunity to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing infants, children, adults and their families across a range of clinical, educational and community settings.

This is an opportunity to combine high-quality clinical practice with genuine social impact while developing specialist knowledge in Deaf culture, hearing loss and inclusive communication.

Requirements

About the Organisation

Our client is a well-established, community-focused organisation supporting Deaf, Deafblind and hard-of-hearing Australians.

Funded through a combination of government programs, grants and fee-for-service arrangements, the organisation delivers essential services designed to improve communication, participation, independence and quality of life.

Its multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively with individuals, families, schools, communities and other service providers. The organisation is strongly guided by its purpose and values, with a genuine commitment to culturally respectful, person-centred and inclusive services.

The organisation’s name will be disclosed to suitable candidates during the recruitment process.

About The Positions

As a Speech and Language Pathologist, you will provide speech, language and communication assessments and therapy to infants, children and adults.

Services are delivered through several programs and funding streams, which may include:

  • National Disability Insurance Scheme programs
  • Healthy Hearing Monitoring Program
  • Hear for Kids in School
  • Other government-funded, grant-funded and fee-for-service programs

You will work within a flexible, interdisciplinary team to ensure clients and their families receive coordinated and individualised support.

Depending on your schedule and clients’ needs, services may be delivered:

  • At the organisation’s Townsville clinic
  • From home through approved telehealth arrangements
  • In clients’ private homes
  • At childcare centres and kindergartens
  • In primary and secondary schools
  • In community-based settings
  • At regional and remote outreach locations

There may be occasional travel to regional or remote communities several times each year. Previous outreach experience is helpful but is not essential.

All approved outreach travel expenses will be paid by the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

In This Role, You Will

  • Conduct evidence-based speech, language and communication assessments.
  • Develop individualised intervention plans in consultation with clients, families and relevant stakeholders.
  • Deliver therapy to infants, children and adults across clinic, home, school, community and telehealth settings.
  • Support Deaf and hard-of-hearing clients using culturally responsive and person-centred approaches.
  • Prepare clinical reports, progress notes, funding documentation and other professional records.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust therapy plans when required.
  • Work collaboratively with families, educators, support coordinators, health professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and service planning.
  • Manage your caseload, schedule and clinical responsibilities effectively.
  • Exercise sound clinical judgement when working independently.
  • Participate in professional supervision, team meetings and professional development.
  • Contribute to occasional outreach services in regional or remote areas.
  • Work toward agreed clinical and service-delivery KPIs.

About You

You will be a self-motivated and values-driven clinician who is committed to delivering meaningful outcomes for clients and families.

You Will Bring

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology.
  • Eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status, or the ability to obtain it, where applicable.
  • Ideally, at least two years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Strong assessment, intervention and clinical-reasoning skills.
  • Sound professional and clinical judgement.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective stakeholder-engagement and relationship-building capabilities.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, documentation and caseload responsibilities.
  • A commitment to culturally safe, person-centred and evidence-based practice.
  • A genuine interest in working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing clients.
  • A willingness to learn about Deaf culture and develop Auslan skills.
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake occasional outreach travel.
  • Australian working rights or an appropriate visa permitting employment in Australia.

Experience working in paediatrics, adult disability, hearing services, schools, early intervention, NDIS-funded services or regional communities will be highly regarded.

Previous experience working with Deaf or hard-of-hearing clients and existing Auslan skills are welcome but are not essential. Training and support will be provided.

What Is on Offer?

The organisation recognises that attracting and retaining excellent clinicians requires flexibility, support and meaningful professional development.

Benefits Include

  • Above-award remuneration, negotiable for the right candidate.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Approved work-from-home and telehealth options.
  • A KPI incentive program, including a bonus of up to $1,000 when the applicable KPI requirements are met.
  • An achievable clinical KPI target of approximately 60%, subject to the organisation’s measurement framework.
  • Three additional paid leave days during the Christmas closure period.
  • Additional financial support for approved professional development.
  • An eight-week beginner Auslan learning program covering Levels 1 and 2.
  • Opportunities to develop specialist knowledge in hearing loss, Deaf culture and inclusive communication.
  • Clinical support and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Paid travel and approved expenses for outreach work.
  • Relocation assistance for successful candidates moving to Townsville.
  • The opportunity to work for a respected, purpose-led organisation making a genuine community impact.

International and Visa-Holding Candidates

Applications Are Welcomed From Suitably Qualified Visa Holders Who

  • Have a speech pathology qualification recognised for practice in Australia.
  • Are eligible for Speech Pathology Australia membership and the relevant professional certification.
  • Hold, or can obtain, appropriate Australian working rights.
  • Can satisfy all required employment, qualification and compliance checks.

Relocation expenses may be provided to successful candidates.

Visa sponsorship is not automatically included and would be subject to the candidate’s circumstances and the organisation’s approval.

Why Join?

This is more than an opportunity to meet clinical targets. It is an opportunity to join an organisation with a clear purpose and a strong commitment to the communities it supports.

You Will Have The Opportunity To

  • Deliver meaningful and varied clinical work.
  • Support clients across different ages, programs and settings.
  • Build specialist knowledge that can distinguish your clinical career.
  • Develop introductory Auslan skills.
  • Work flexibly while remaining connected to a collaborative team.
  • Build relationships with families, schools, communities and professional stakeholders.
  • Participate in occasional outreach work without needing previous remote-practice experience.
  • Contribute to better communication, inclusion and independence for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
