Job Title: Senior HVAC Technician Company: Austability Location: Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan (On-site) Type: Full-Time (Initial One-Year Contract with Optional 3-5 Year Renewals) Compensation: Salary up to ¥7,200,000 annually (approximately $44,500 USD), plus paid transportation, relocation assistance, and travel benefits About Austability Austability is a global provider of government and military support services, delivering mission-critical operations, maintenance, and technical expertise to U.S. Department of Defense and international government facilities worldwide. The company is committed to providing highly skilled professionals who ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical infrastructure supporting military readiness and base operations. About the Role As a Senior HVAC Technician, you will support Base Operations at the Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station by performing advanced maintenance, repair, overhaul, troubleshooting, installation, and modernization of complex commercial and industrial HVAC systems. Serving as the acting shift lead, you will provide technical guidance, assist with training personnel, and help ensure mission-critical mechanical and electrical systems operate safely and efficiently. Working within a collaborative maintenance team, you will support a wide variety of specialized HVAC and facility systems while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense standards and operational requirements. This position offers an initial one-year assignment with optional contract renewals for an additional three to five years. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, and installation of complex commercial and industrial HVAC systems. Troubleshoot and repair specialized HVAC equipment where technical manuals or specifications are incomplete or unavailable. Test, repair, maintain, install, and modernize associated electrical systems supporting HVAC equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system failures to restore system operation. Perform maintenance on water chillers, cooling towers, air handling systems, and related equipment. Maintain and service CBRNE filtration systems, smoke evacuation systems, CO scrubbers, intake louvers, ventilation equipment, and associated mechanical systems. Troubleshoot and maintain digital control systems, automation controls, sensors, and building automation equipment. Conduct inspections and prepare detailed written maintenance and inspection reports. Serve as the acting assigned shift lead by providing technical leadership, training maintenance personnel, and preparing instructional materials. Maintain accountability for company tools, equipment, spare parts, and maintenance inventories. Support emergency maintenance activities through participation in an on-call rotation and after-hours response schedule. Ensure compliance with Department of Defense maintenance standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements. Perform other facility maintenance duties supporting mission-critical base operations as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program. Universal EPA Certification. Minimum five to ten years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience, or Journeyman HVAC status. Experience servicing complex HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, military, or government facilities. Experience working with water chillers, cooling towers, CBRNE filtration systems, smoke evacuation systems, CO scrubbers, intake louvers, screens, digital controls, automation sensors, and related equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, and automated HVAC control systems. Ability to prepare technical reports and maintenance documentation. Fluent in both English and Japanese. Valid passport (if not currently residing in Japan). Ability to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese work visa, if required. Ability to obtain a Japanese driver's license to operate company vehicles. Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance requests. Candidates must observe the United States business and public holiday calendar, rather than the Japanese public holiday calendar, for work schedules, leave, and operational requirements. What We Offer Competitive salary up to ¥7,200,000 annually (approximately $44,500 USD), paid in either Japanese Yen or U.S. Dollars. Paid transportation, relocation assistance, and travel benefits. Initial one-year contract with the opportunity for optional three- to five-year renewals. Stable full-time schedule consisting of a minimum of eight-hour days, five days per week.
