Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Electrical Engineer – Level 6 to serve as a Deputy Subsystems Lead on the GPI Kill Vehicle Avionics Integrated Product Team (IPT) supporting the Launch and Exploration business unit in Chandler, Arizona . Aligned with Northrop Grumman’s product-based organizational structure , the Deputy Lead will play a key role in coordinating cross-discipline efforts to deliver high-quality products that meet cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in avionics design or guided electronic systems, and a proven ability to manage complex product development efforts in collaboration with cross-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). Job Responsibilities: Serve as the Deputy Lead for the Avionics subsystem, owning requirements, design, integration, and verification for the avionics and associated interfaces. Define and manage requirements for avionic subsystems performance, thermal and mechanical environments, electrical interfaces, reliability, and maintainability, ensuring traceability to system level requirements. Collaborate with technical leadership on system requirements generation and associated flow down, subsystem design/analysis, and subsystem performance verification including lab and flight testing. Coordinate with internal systems, guidance navigation and control (GNC), avionics, firmware/software, mechanical, materials, and manufacturing teams to ensure coherent system level integration and design closure. Generate and maintain technical documentation including requirements specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), design descriptions, test plans and procedures, and verification reports. Develops and evaluates electrical system architecture alternatives in concert with the broader systems engineering effort to select an electrical-system architecture that meets the customer's needs. Performs electrically focused requirement analysis and decomposition as part of the systems engineering translation of customer requirements into hardware specifications. Develop and implement modeling solutions, conduct trade studies and evaluation of system and subsystem performance. Work with suppliers and vendors to develop, procure, and qualify hardware; provide detailed technical feedback on designs, analyses, and manufacturing processes; and ensure all hardware vendor development adheres to the program requirements and follows established department command media. Manage technical risk associated with avionics development, driving mitigation plans for performance, schedule, and producibility risks in collaboration with program management. Provide technical briefings to internal and external stakeholders, including participation in design, integration, and readiness reviews at the assembly and system levels. Basic Qualifications: 14 years with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or 12 years with a master’s degree in engineering, or 8 years of related experience with a PhD. U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to obtain a U.S. Government – Secret security clearance. Demonstrated experience with system avionics or guided electronic system interfaces, such as command/telemetry, data buses, power interfaces, and timing/control interfaces. Proficiency with engineering analysis, simulation, and design tools. Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary engineering efforts, resolve complex technical issues, and communicate technical status and risks to stakeholders. Strong communication and organizational skills, including experience preparing technical documentation and presenting at technical reviews. Preferred Qualifications: Active U.S. Government Security clearance at the time of application. Experience serving as a responsible engineer or technical lead for avionics or guided section hardware on missile, space, or other high‑reliability platforms. Extensive Electrical Engineering background with an understanding of analog and digital electronics, power systems, command and data handling, signal integrity, and grounding schematic Hands-on experience executing specialized electrical engineering analysis (Sneak Circuit, Worst Case, Bent Pin, Power/Grounding, Derating, and Electrical Stress analysis) Previous experience with DoD missile defense programs, including familiarity with performance verification frameworks, environmental qualification, and flight test correlation. Familiarity of preliminary design review (PDR) and critical design review (CDR) processes Primary Level Salary Range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
