Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Core)

About the Role

Join the core engineering team at a marketing technology company to build and scale the distributed systems behind its data platform. You will own projects end to end and help ensure reliable, efficient data movement for customers across regions and cloud environments.

What You'll Do

• Build and optimize systems that move large volumes of customer data efficiently.

• Develop streaming capabilities for real-time data syncing from sources such as webhooks and message queues.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and improve system scalability and reliability.

• Contribute to latency improvements and caching for personalization services.

• Extend and support multi-region, multi-cloud infrastructure to meet data residency needs.

• Work directly with customers on scaling challenges and deliver projects with a high degree of autonomy.

What We're Looking For

• At least 6 years of backend engineering experience in distributed systems, including experience at staff level.

• Strong systems design fundamentals and experience building complex backend systems at scale.

• Experience creating event collection or data streaming services that support critical systems.

• Hands-on expertise with Kafka, SQL databases, Kubernetes, and Docker.

• Experience scaling systems through significant growth, ideally in a high-velocity startup environment.

• Strong computer science fundamentals and experience working close to infrastructure.

• Familiarity with how technologies such as Spark, Flink, and Kafka work internally is beneficial, as is experience building data sync engines that process terabytes of data per day.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range is $180,000 to $320,000. Visa sponsorship is available.
