Job Description Summary Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Owns/influences budgets and operating plans. The role is guided by operating policy. Works with cross functional teams. The role has autonomy within the operational area or a segment within a larger business unit. The role may have a major impact on a small business unit or Family within a Function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes. Job Description Essential Responsibilities: Conducts system, structure, component and product integration. Manages structure and system requirements, specifications and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing. Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations. Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system. Lead disciplines as a 2nd line manager with front line manager and controlled title holder direct reports. Has the ability to attract and retain talent. Developing expertise in own function. Influences policy and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization. Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision making process. Leads others to find creative solutions for complex design process and integration problems. Creatively develops ways to accelerate design to end-customers. Employs sophisticated engineering techniques. Interaction with adjacent functions needed to solve issues. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help drive solutions and decide decisively. May lead functional teams or projects with resource constraints, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicates complex messages and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers. Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in engineering or STEM discipline from an accredited university or equivalent work experience. At least 3 years of experience leading engineering teams as a functional manager or project manager in a technically challenging environment. Desired Characteristics: Experience with nuclear engineering or related discipline, especially in civil or electrical engineering. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. For candidates applying to a Canadian-based position, the pay range for this position is between $171,000 and $221,000 CAD.
