  • Perform checks of concrete anchorage in accordance with project guidelines.
  • Document analysis results in formal Design Analysis Calculation (DAC) packages.
  • Assist in development of project guidance documents related to structural engineering.
  • Review and check work performed by other project participants.

  • Assist Technical Approvers and project stakeholders with development and review of Statements of Work (SOWs), technical specifications, evaluation criteria, bid packages, and vendor clarifications.
  • Support Title III activities including review and disposition of non-conformances (NCRs), deviation requests, and technical queries, ensuring alignment with design intent, codes, and project requirements.
  • Participate in proposal evaluations and technical down-select decisions; support negotiation of technical scope.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to monitor fabrication progress, verify compliance, and support acceptance/closeout activities.
  • Perform, develop, and modify linear and nonlinear structural analysis of Tokamak components using FEA software.
  • Assist in development of design details.
  • Evaluation of vendor proposals as part of competitive bid packages.
  • Oversee equipment and support fabrication and inspection activities.
  • Domestic and foreign travel may be required (<25%).
  • Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote equal opportunity by fostering a respectful workplace – in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.

  • Familiarity with ANSI/AISC and AWS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of specialized experience in design, fabrication, and assembly of large-scale industrial or nuclear supports and hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate problems, investigate and propose solutions, perform calculations, apply industry standards, and document design and fabrication activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and plan design activities, plan and direct analysis work, and interface effectively with management and international stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of structural design and analysis fundamentals and their application to large facilities.
  • Experience with the use of EN Eurocodes.
