The Substation Electrician is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation equipment and associated systems. Working as part of Allteck's Stations and Data Centers group, this role builds and upgrades high- and medium-voltage substation assets, and keeps them operating safely and reliably through installation, assembly, and corrective work.

This is a travelling, road-based position. The successful candidate will be deployed to project and maintenance sites in the United States for extended periods and must hold a valid passport and be able to obtain travel visa (provided and completed by Allteck.) Comfort with living away from home, working rotating schedules, and adapting to varied site conditions is essential.

Pay rate: $59.90 USD per hour ($80.00 - $84.00 CAD)

Per diem: $100 USD/day (approx. $140.42 CAD/day), hotel provided

Responsibilities

• Install, assemble, and commission substation equipment including transformers, breakers, switchgear, disconnects, batteries, and protection and control systems.
• Construct and upgrade high- and medium-voltage substation facilities, including foundations-to-energization installation of new and replacement equipment.
• Terminate, connect, and test control wiring, instrument transformers, relays, and metering as directed.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
• Complete construction records, commissioning reports, and job documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow all applicable safety codes, utility standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and site-specific work rules.
• Participate in job planning, tailboard/safety meetings, and hazard assessments prior to and during work activities.
• Travel to and work at substation and data centre sites throughout the United States for extended rotations as assigned.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles in safe working order.

Education, Training & Experience

• Completion of a recognized Electrician apprenticeship with a valid journeyperson Electrician certificate (Construction or Industrial), or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in substation construction is strongly preferred.
• Valid passport
• Valid driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract.
• Current safety tickets relevant to substation work (e.g., First Aid, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout) considered an asset.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong working knowledge of high- and medium-voltage substation equipment and construction practices.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams.
• Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on complex electrical systems.
• Committed to safe work practices and able to enforce a strong safety culture on site.
• Willing to travel and work away from home on extended rotations in the United States.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a crew.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for documentation and coordination with site teams.
