Take your testing and commissioning experience to New Zealand

Climate17 is ElectroNet’s exclusive UK recruitment partner, supporting its growth by identifying experienced electrical professionals across the UK and Ireland who are interested in relocating to New Zealand.

ElectroNet Contracting delivers electrical infrastructure, construction and maintenance services across the country. Its technicians work on substations, electricity networks and renewable energy assets, including wind, solar and battery storage projects.

This is an opportunity to join a business offering varied fieldwork, specialist development and involvement in infrastructure that supplies communities across New Zealand.

The role

You will test, commission and maintain power systems equipment, working on new infrastructure and upgrades to existing assets.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Testing and commissioning primary and secondary equipment on new substations and existing substation upgrades.
  • Carrying out routine protection testing, maintenance and fault-finding.
  • Supporting electrical maintenance and testing of high-voltage equipment.
  • Completing acceptance testing and recording accurate technical results.
  • Providing practical technical advice and working closely with colleagues, customers and subcontractors.
  • Maintaining safe working practices and high standards of quality.

The role involves travel to sites throughout New Zealand and periods working away from home. Location options will be discussed individually, with offices including Greymouth, Nelson, Cromwell, Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington.

Your background

We would like to hear from qualified electrical technicians with:

  • Experience in the power systems sector, including electrical testing, commissioning, industrial electrical work and/or substations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • A practical, organised approach and the ability to work effectively within site teams.
  • A commitment to safe working practices and accurate technical documentation.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.

Existing New Zealand registration is not essential to an initial conversation, but registration eligibility will need to be assessed.

Pay, benefits and relocation

The hourly rate is NZ$52.88–$62.50, depending on experience. Hours worked above 40 per week are paid at 1.5 times the applicable hourly rate, with additional allowances where applicable, including away-work and meal allowances.

ElectroNet also offers mentoring, career development, wellbeing support, insurance benefits, parental leave benefits and employee discounts, subject to eligibility and company policy.

Relocation assistance is available and includes flights for you and your immediate family, moving costs, temporary accommodation and visa support. Agreed relocation costs are subject to a 24-month pro-rata repayment arrangement.

Start with a confidential conversation

If New Zealand is something you have considered, we can help you explore the role and practicalities before deciding whether to progress.

An introductory webinar is planned for Thursday 29th October, with opportunities to meet ElectroNet’s leadership team during their UK visit in the week commencing 2nd November. Teams discussions are also available.
