The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine. Job Summary The Security Superintendent is responsible for maintaining, implementing, and continuously improving security programs and site security systems at the Great Bear Project. The role supports exploration, construction, camp operations, and underground development activities by ensuring effective security oversight and alignment with regulatory, project, and company requirements. The Security Superintendent works closely with operational leaders, contractors, camp management, and support services to integrate security requirements into planning and execution and verify effective security coverage across active work areas. The Security Superintendent will serve as the Great Bear Resources security subject matter expert and will take the lead in implementing the Global Security Standardization Program, with consistency and uniformity aligning with Global Security Standards. This will promote a proactive, risk-based approach to site security aligned with Kinross Safeground principles, and serves as the primary lead or physical security, access control, incident management, and contractor security oversight, ensuring security risks are effectively identified, managed, and communicated. Key Responsibilities and Duties Security Program Management Maintain and continuously improve the site security management program and supporting procedures to ensure a coordinated and auditable security system. Develop, implement, and maintain site security standards, protocols, and response procedures. Oversee site access control systems, badging processes, visitor management, and contractor security compliance. Manage operational activities, site changes, and project plans to ensure security risks and requirements are identified and integrated. Coordinate with operational departments to support security coverage for high-risk activities, critical infrastructure, and sensitive areas. Validate site security systems, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained and functioning effectively, including CCTV, alarms, gates, radios, lighting, and access control systems. Maintain security documentation, inspection records, incident reports, and related compliance records. Ensure Great Bear Resources security operations align with the Global Security Standardization Program. Develop the Site Security Plan (SSP) and the Security Event Response Plan (SERP) for use during normal operations, and when there is a security event or increased threat level. Conduct security reviews, internal self-assessments, and audits. Prepare mine site vulnerability assessments and conduct regular reviews. Develop a robust performance testing and tabletop exercise program. Develop and manage a credible threat assessment and design a security system to protect against threats. Evaluate the effectiveness of the site security program. Incorporate security into training exercises to improve individual, collective, and organizational capabilities and management readiness . Security Operations & Readiness Maintain continuous oversight of site security readiness across all active work areas, camp facilities, offices, and access points. Monitor contractor security performance to ensure services are delivered in accordance with project expectations and contractual requirements. Conduct routine inspections, audits, and field verifications to confirm security controls are effective and consistently applied. Manage incident response activities, including security incidents, unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, threats, disturbances, and emergency situations. Oversee site crisis management activities, including emergency coordination, escalation support, and incident response planning. Coordinate security support for emergency drills, exercises, and evacuation activities. Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and operational readiness are maintained. Coordinate wildfire preparedness, evacuation coordination, and related site emergency planning activities as required. Develop a Security Operations Control Center for Great Bear Resources. Contractor Security Oversight Provide oversight and direction to contracted security service providers operating on site. Manage security force personnel and training requirements. Monitor contractor performance, staffing levels, training, certifications, reporting quality, and overall service delivery. Lead contractor onboarding, orientation, and performance reviews related to security services. Ensure contractor personnel understand and comply with all Great Bear Resources project security requirements, procedures, and expectations. Identify performance gaps and coordinate corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives with contractor leadership. Maintain effective working relationships with contractor supervision and project leadership teams. . Incident Management & Investigation Lead investigations related to security incidents, policy violations, theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, workplace violence, or suspicious activity. Maintain accurate incident records, evidence documentation, and investigation files. Identify gaps, and improvement opportunities based on security observations and incident data. Coordinate with Human Resources, HSS, camp management, and external agencies as required during investigations or response activities. Prepare security reports, summaries, and briefings for project leadership. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement Coordinate with Site Operations, HSS, Environmental, Site Access, IT and external emergency services to ensure integrated site security management. Liaise with regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and emergency responders as required. Manage workforce awareness related to site security expectations, reporting requirements, and emergency response procedures. Provide security updates, risk information, and recommendations for project leadership. Regulatory Compliance Ensure site security programs align with applicable legislation, project requirements, and company standards. Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews related to site security and emergency preparedness. Maintain awareness of applicable privacy, evidence handling, workplace violence, and critical infrastructure protection requirements. Ensure security related records and documentation are maintained in accordance with project and legal requirements. Promote human rights and security best practices. Adhere to all relevant Great Bear policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skill Requirements A degree in Security Management, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or related field, with 10+ years of experience in industrial security, law enforcement, emergency services, or high-risk operational environmental. Experience in mining, construction, remote camp operations, or heavy industrial projects. Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing contract security services. Incident Command System Training Workplace Violence and Harassment Training First Aid/CPR Strong understanding of industrial security systems, access control, investigations, and incident management. Experience overseeing contract security providers and multi-employer work environments. Knowledge of security risk assessments, emergency response coordination, and crisis management principles. Familiarity with CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control platforms, and security reporting tools. Knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and workplace violence requirements. Experience supporting audits, inspections, investigations, and emergency exercises. Compensation and Total Rewards The base salary for the Security Superintendent is $145,000.00 to $175,000.00 + Short Term Incentive, + Group Benefit Coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate's experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
