Job Title: Surgical Tech - Ortho Location: Peoria, Illinois Schedule: Full-Time | 10-Hour Day Shifts | Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM Pay Range: $27.26–$38.48 per hour Weekend Differential: +$2.50 per hour Sign-On Bonus: $15,000 with a two-year commitment Relocation Assistance: May be available and discussed during the interview process Job Overview A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Surgical Tech – Ortho to join a high-volume surgical team in Peoria, Illinois. The Surgical Technologist will serve in the scrub role for a wide variety of orthopedic procedures, including total joint replacements, arthroscopy, trauma, fracture repair, hand surgery, and pediatric orthopedics. The department performs approximately 20–25 surgical cases per day and offers exposure to both routine and complex orthopedic procedures. Candidates must have at least two years of Surgical Technologist experience , including orthopedic surgical experience. Responsibilities Function as a scrub technologist during orthopedic surgical procedures Prepare operating rooms with required instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies Establish and maintain the sterile field throughout each procedure Anticipate surgeon needs and efficiently pass instruments, sutures, implants, and other supplies Perform and support orthopedic procedures including: Total hip replacements Total knee replacements Total shoulder replacements Knee arthroscopy Shoulder arthroscopy Hip arthroscopy Wrist arthroscopy Hand surgery Fracture repair Orthopedic trauma Pediatric orthopedic procedures Assist with complex orthopedic instrumentation and implant systems Complete accurate instrument, sponge, needle, and sharps counts Assist with patient positioning and surgical preparation as appropriate Maintain sterile technique and infection-prevention standards Ensure instruments and equipment are functioning appropriately before procedures Assist with room turnover and preparation between surgical cases Collaborate closely with surgeons, RN circulators, anesthesia providers, and other OR staff Utilize surgeon preference cards to prepare cases accurately Use Epic OpTime when required for procedural workflow and documentation Participate in weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotations Respond to emergency surgical call within the required timeframe Float to other surgical specialties when operationally necessary Perform other Surgical Technologist responsibilities as assigned Qualifications Required Minimum of two years of Surgical Technologist experience At least one year of orthopedic surgical experience strongly desired Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program with hands-on clinical training, or qualifying military surgical technology training Current Basic Life Support certification Strong experience functioning independently in the scrub role Knowledge of orthopedic instrumentation, implants, and surgical techniques Strong understanding of sterile technique and infection prevention Ability to anticipate surgeon needs in a fast-paced operating room environment Ability to participate in required weekday, weekend, and holiday call Ability to meet a 30-minute call response requirement Ability to work 10-hour day shifts Preferred Certified Surgical Technologist credential through NBSTSA Two or more years of dedicated Orthopedic OR experience Total joint replacement experience Orthopedic trauma experience Experience with pediatric orthopedic surgery Experience with arthroscopic procedures Previous experience in a large or high-volume surgical center Experience with Epic OpTime Department Information The Orthopedic Surgery department performs approximately 20–25 cases per day . Common procedures include: Total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements Knee, shoulder, hip, and wrist arthroscopy Hand surgery Fracture repair Orthopedic trauma Pediatric orthopedic procedures A Charge Nurse is available for department support, and House Supervisor coverage is available 24/7. Hospital-provided surgical scrubs are provided. Schedule & Call Requirements 10-hour day shifts Monday–Friday Typical hours: 7:00 AM–5:30 PM Manager-developed schedule with consideration for requested time off Approximately 1–2 weeknight call shifts per week Approximately one weekend call rotation per month Weekend call generally begins Friday after the scheduled shift and continues through Monday morning Holiday call required as needed 30-minute call response time Floating Floating outside Orthopedic Surgery is possible but not common. Potential surgical areas may include: General Surgery Pediatric Surgery Neurosurgery Cardiac Surgery When floating, assignments are typically based on demonstrated competency and may involve serving as a second scrub or assisting with retraction.
