About this Opportunity

  • Permanent, Full-Time
  • CQUniversity Mackay (Relocation support available)
  • Starting salary $107,697 (from $56.94/ hr) + 17% superannuation
  • 5.4 weeks annual leave + paid Christmas/New Year break
  • TAE40122 fully funded - and you’re paid while you complete it!

Join an organisation with an unbreakable belief that quality education, training and research should be available to everyone – regardless of background, location or life circumstances.

You've built the skills. Now pass them on.

If you've spent years on the tools, solving problems and building the practical skills that only come from industry experience, your next career move could be teaching the next generation to do the same.

At CQUniversity, you'll stay connected to your trade while using your experience in a new way. Teaching into Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology (AUR30320), you'll deliver hands-on training and assessment to apprentices, using your industry experience to bring the trade to life. You'll guide students through the practical and technical aspects of automotive electrical work and help develop confident, capable and job-ready tradespeople.

No teaching experience? No worries. We value your real-world industry experience. We'll provide a fully funded TAE40122 qualification and support you every step of the way while you're employed and earning.

Why make the move into teaching?

  • Stay connected to your trade and put years of industry experience to use in a new way.
  • Earn while you learn, with your TAE40122 fully funded while you're employed.
  • Enjoy 5.4 weeks annual leave, plus the University's paid Christmas/New Year closure.
  • Build a long-term career with a permanent position and 17% superannuation.
  • Pass on what you know and help shape the next generation of skilled tradies.

Your Week

Your full-time workload is structured to recognise both your time teaching and the work that happens outside the classroom.

  • 36.25 hrs/week (full-time) covering teaching, preparation, marking and student support.
  • Teaching time istypically 22 hrs/week, with up to 25 hrs by agreement – no more than 9 teaching hours in a day.
  • Prep and marking are included as part of your paid workload – not additional unpaid work on top of your allocated hours.
  • Flexible start and finish times, planned around teaching needs, with flexibility supported where possible to accommodate personal, family and carer responsibilities.

Make the move to Regional Queensland

Relocate to the Mackay Region and enjoy the perfect mix of city convenience and coastal living, with beautiful beaches, great dining and easy access to the Whitsundays. Explore nearby islands and the Great Barrier Reef, where pristine beaches, coral reefs, and crystal-clear waters provide the perfect escape for snorkelling, diving, and relaxation. Plus, relocation assistance is available to help make your move smoother and more affordable.

What you'll need

  • A minimum qualification in Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology is required. Dual-trade candidates, particularly those with a qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or another complementary trade, will be highly regarded.
  • Current hands-on industry experience in areas such as electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing, commissioning or industrial environments.
  • An interest in mentoring apprentices, sharing your knowledge and guiding learners in both workshop and classroom settings.
  • No teaching experience required – only a willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support.
