Technical Manager - EV Charging - Manchester (Hybrid) - Salary Depending on Experience + Bonus + Relocation Bonus

*** Relocation support available (up to £3,000) for the right candidate

About the Role

Every EV charger in the field will, at some point, develop a fault, and identifying whether the issue lies with the charger, the vehicle, or the network connection is not always straightforward. This role exists to provide that expertise: diagnosing issues accurately, resolving them efficiently, and ensuring recurring problems are addressed at the root cause.

You will sit at the centre of the technical team, testing new chargers ahead of release, investigating returned units, and providing technical escalation support to Customer Service when an issue requires specialist knowledge. This is hands-on, technically demanding work with a direct and visible impact on product quality and customer experience.

This is a newly created role, established to support a technical team. You will work closely with the Technical Director, who designed and developed the charger from the ground up, providing an opportunity to build deep product knowledge from the individual who knows it best.

About the Company

Our client designs and supplies smart EV charging solutions for both domestic and commercial customers, with a strong focus on the electrical wholesale market. Their product range includes home EV chargers, commercial charging units, and an accompanying smart charging app and platform, alongside a growing demand flexibility offering that allows customers to optimise how and when their chargers draw power. There are already tens of thousands of their chargers installed and in active use across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose technical faults on EV chargers, determining whether issues originate from the hardware, the vehicle, or the network connection
  • Test new EV charger hardware, software and firmware prior to release
  • Investigate returned products to identify root causes and feed findings back into product improvement
  • Act as the technical escalation point for Customer Service on complex or unresolved issues
  • Work closely with the Technical Director to support continuous improvement of the product

About You

  • Hands-on experience diagnosing faults specifically within EV charging hardware, rather than general electrical or network systems
  • A degree or formal training in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • A methodical approach to fault-finding, with a focus on identifying root cause rather than treating symptoms
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical colleagues

Details

  • Office based in Manchester, four days per week
  • Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Reports to the Technical Director
  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, with an additional day per year of service (up to 25 days)
  • Company pension
  • Relocation support available (up to £3,000) for the right candidate
