About the Role

Our client, a global technology leader in positioning, modeling, and data analytics solutions, is seeking a Tools & Automation Engineer to support the development, production, and testing of advanced GPS receiver technology. This role sits within a team focused on aerospace and defense navigation systems, where you'll build automation tools, data analysis applications, and test infrastructure that directly support mission-critical products.

You will own the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and design through deployment and manufacturing support, while collaborating closely with systems, hardware, and software engineering teams.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain software tools used for GPS receiver production and testing.
• Define and implement scalable, modular architectures for command, control, and data analysis applications.
• Lead projects from concept and requirements gathering through validation and manufacturing release.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate technical requirements into robust software solutions.
• Develop desktop applications using Visual Studio .NET, C++, C#, and Python.
• Design intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for engineering and test environments.
• Create and maintain integrations with relational databases for analytics, reporting, and operational workflows.
• Support software build, release, and configuration management processes.
• Contribute to product test automation, device driver development, and hardware verification initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing and engineering challenges while ensuring compliance with documentation and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience developing PC desktop applications.
• Strong experience with Visual Studio .NET.
• Proficiency in C++ or C# and Python 3.x.
• Experience with modular, requirements-driven software architecture and design.
• Experience with relational database design and integration.
• Understanding of configuration management tools, build systems, and release processes.
• Experience developing graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
• Hands-on experience in at least one of the following:
  • Product test automation
  • Device driver development
  • Hardware verification
  • Similar engineering automation environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CMMI, DO-178, or similar software process frameworks.
• Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, or Iterative Spiral development methodologies.
• Experience with Visual Basic.
• Background supporting aerospace, aviation, defense, or safety-critical systems.

Security Requirements

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship is required for the clearance process.

Work Environment

• On-site in Sunnyvale, CA.
• No travel required.

• Base Salary: $138,700 - $190,700

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $138700.00 - $190700.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
