Project Lawyer – Major Construction Project

Heriot Brown is working with a major international construction and development business on the appointment of a Project Lawyer to support the delivery of a significant c.£500m infrastructure project in Jersey.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced construction lawyer to become embedded within a major live project, working closely with the project, commercial and operational teams throughout the delivery phase.

The role will combine both non-contentious and contentious construction work, with a strong focus on day-to-day project support.

Key responsibilities will include:

Drafting and negotiating construction subcontracts.
Reviewing and negotiating collateral warranties and associated project documentation.
Advising project and commercial teams on contractual risk.
Supporting claims, disputes and other contentious matters arising during delivery.
Advising on contractual notices, project correspondence and ongoing obligations.
Working closely with senior project stakeholders and external advisers.
Providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice within a fast-moving project environment.

The successful candidate is likely to have:

Around 5+ years' PQE, although relevant experience will be more important than strict PQE.
Strong construction law experience.
Experience across both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Confidence drafting and negotiating construction contracts and project documentation.
The ability to operate autonomously and work directly with non-legal stakeholders.
Experience on a major construction, infrastructure or engineering project would be particularly attractive.

French language capability would be advantageous, but is not essential.

The role will be predominantly site-based in Jersey for the duration of the project. Accommodation will be provided and support is available around relocation and relevant immigration requirements.

A four-year fixed-term contract is the preferred structure, although a permanent appointment may also be considered. The business is also open to candidates seeking a reduced working pattern of approximately 60% or above.

This could suit someone currently in-house, in private practice, or already working closely with major project teams who is attracted by the opportunity to take real ownership of legal support on a flagship construction project.
