VP of Marketing

Reports to: Founder and CEO

Location: 599 Broadway, SoHo, New York

Working arrangement: Full-time, office-based five days per week

Travel: Minimal

Base salary: $225,000-$275,000

About Manière De Voir

Manière De Voir - French for "way of seeing" - is a premium, multi-gender fashion brand founded in 2013 by Reece Wabara.

Built on a digital-first model, MDV has grown to more than $65 million in annual revenue while remaining profitable every year since inception and taking no external funding. The brand is recognised for its minimalist, design-led fashion, positioned between luxury and the high street.

MDV operates four global stores across three continents - London (Oxford Street and Battersea Power Station), New York's SoHo, and The Dubai Mall - supported by a US office in SoHo, established UK/US e-commerce operations, and wholesale relationships with Nordstrom, Farfetch and Ounass, alongside an upcoming Bloomingdale's partnership.

MDV has reached an important stage in its development, with product, digital-commerce engine, international retail footprint and partner network established and further expansion planned. The opportunity now is to build a modern marketing organisation capable of driving the next stage of profitable global growth.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a commercially driven VP of Marketing to lead MDV's brand and performance marketing organisation from New York.

Reporting directly to the Founder and CEO, the VP of Marketing will own MDV's overall marketing strategy across brand marketing, customer acquisition and customer growth, leading Brand Marketing, Performance Marketing and the Head of Customer Growth & Retention, and ensuring each function operates against shared commercial and brand objectives.

The VP of Marketing will partner closely with the VP of Creative, who reports separately to the Founder and CEO and retains ownership of MDV's creative direction, visual identity, campaign concepts and content execution.

This is not a channel-specialist position. It is a senior business leadership role responsible for connecting brand building, demand generation, customer acquisition and retention into one commercially accountable marketing strategy, with a greenfield mandate to design and recruit the marketing organisation required to deliver it, rather than inheriting a fixed structure.

Organisational Scope

The VP of Marketing will:

  • Lead Brand Marketing, Performance Marketing and Customer Growth & Retention, designing, recruiting and building the marketing team and leadership structure from the ground up, and owning marketing strategy, planning, investment allocation and effectiveness, partnering with - but not managing - the VP of Creative and wider Creative function.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy and Leadership

  • Define and lead MDV's global marketing strategy across brand, acquisition and customer growth, translating company objectives into clear annual, quarterly and monthly plans, and establishing priorities, objectives and operating rhythms across all marketing functions.
  • Design, recruit and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary marketing team, creating alignment between commercial goals, customer growth and long-term brand value, and acting as a senior commercial and marketing adviser to the Founder and CEO.

Brand Marketing and Demand Generation

  • Lead MDV's brand marketing strategy, audience development and go-to-market planning, defining how MDV builds awareness, consideration and demand across priority markets, and establishing campaign objectives, target audiences, channel strategies and commercial outcomes.
  • Balance short-term demand generation with long-term brand development, developing integrated plans supporting product launches, retail stores, e-commerce and wholesale partners, and building frameworks for measuring brand health, partnering with the VP of Creative to translate objectives into distinctive creative work.

Performance Marketing and Customer Acquisition

  • Lead MDV's global customer-acquisition strategy across paid social, paid search and other performance channels, owning new-customer growth, customer acquisition cost and media efficiency, and determining the balance between demand generation and demand capture.
  • Oversee media planning, agency relationships, channel development and performance optimisation, establishing performance-creative testing requirements with the VP of Creative, diversifying acquisition and ensuring decisions account for customer quality, contribution and lifetime value.

Customer Growth and Retention Leadership

  • Lead the Head of Customer Growth & Retention and establish clear customer-growth objectives, ensuring acquisition, conversion, retention and loyalty operate as one connected customer journey, with shared objectives between Performance Marketing and Customer Growth, evaluating acquisition against downstream retention and lifetime value, and holding Customer Growth accountable for retention, repeat purchase, conversion and owned-channel contribution.

Budget Ownership and Resource Allocation

  • Own MDV's total brand, performance and customer-growth marketing budget, allocating investment by commercial opportunity and evaluating incremental return across brand, acquisition and retention activity.
  • Build annual investment plans and recommendations for the Founder and CEO, reallocating resources as priorities evolve, establishing financial accountability, and partnering with the VP of Creative on production requirements without owning Creative's budget.

Measurement and Marketing Effectiveness

  • Establish a unified view of marketing performance across acquisition, retention and brand, leading attribution, incrementality testing and media-effectiveness frameworks, and connecting investment to revenue, contribution, customer growth and long-term brand value.
  • Ensure decisions are commercially, not channel-metric, driven, defining consistent measures across Marketing, Customer Growth, E-commerce and Finance, building clear reporting for senior leadership, and fostering a culture of experimentation and evidence-based investment.

Partnership with Creative

  • Build an effective peer-level partnership with the VP of Creative, establishing clear commercial briefs, audiences, objectives, deliverables and timelines, and giving Creative the insight and feedback needed to produce effective work.
  • Respect Creative's ownership of concepts, art direction, brand identity and visual execution, developing integrated planning that gives Creative appropriate time and context, and escalating major disagreements to the Founder and CEO where required.

Omnichannel and International Growth

  • Ensure marketing supports MDV's e-commerce, retail and wholesale objectives, developing market-specific strategies for the US, UK and other priority territories, and supporting new store openings, wholesale launches and international expansion.
  • Identify opportunities to expand customer acquisition, brand reach and cultural relevance, building scalable marketing infrastructure for future global growth, partnering with Retail, Wholesale, E-commerce and Trading without owning their commercial operations.

First 12-Month Mandate

During the first 12 months, the VP of Marketing will be expected to:

  • Build the core marketing organisation across Brand Marketing, Performance Marketing and Customer Growth, establishing clear leadership, operating rhythms and accountability, while delivering profitable new-customer growth and improving incremental marketing contribution, acquisition efficiency, payback and new-customer cohort quality.
  • Establish an integrated planning and measurement system that connects brand demand, performance marketing and retention to commercial outcomes across e-commerce, retail and wholesale.

Principal Measures of Success

Success in this role will primarily be measured through:

  • Incremental marketing contribution and return on investment; profitable new-customer growth; customer acquisition cost and payback period.
  • New-customer cohort quality, including 90- and 180-day repeat purchase, contribution and LTV-to-CAC performance; brand demand and health across priority markets.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Significant senior marketing leadership experience within a premium fashion brand (required), including scaling a founder-led business into a mature, multi-channel marketing organisation, and leading both brand and performance marketing within one organisation.
  • Strong understanding of acquisition, retention, brand building and e-commerce economics; experience managing substantial marketing budgets, improving marketing efficiency while supporting long-term brand development, and building attribution/incrementality frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing multidisciplinary teams, with strong understanding of e-commerce, retail, wholesale and omnichannel journeys, and of the premium-fashion customer, product cycle and competitive environment.

Leadership Profile

  • Commercially rigorous, with strong financial judgment, able to connect brand strategy with measurable business performance, and comfortable leading senior specialists without becoming an executional bottleneck.
  • Highly effective in founder-led businesses and alongside strong creative leadership; clear, decisive, accountable and biased toward execution, able to balance short-term growth with long-term brand value.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary: $225,000-$275,000, depending on experience. Annual bonus: Performance-related opportunity of 20%-30% of base salary, tied to agreed marketing, customer-growth, profitability and company-performance objectives. Benefits: Healthcare benefits.

Employment visa sponsorship is available for candidates who meet the role requirements.
