Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day administration and oversight of the site’s hazardous, non-hazardous, universal, and special waste programs. This role ensures waste is properly characterized, profiled, accumulated, documented, transported, and disposed of in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards. The specialist serves as the primary environmental contact for the onsite waste contractor and coordinates compliant waste operations across the manufacturing site and the waste storage building. Responsibilities: Administer the site waste program in accordance with RCRA, Ohio hazardous-waste requirements, universal-waste requirements, applicable permits, and company procedures. Coordinate and document waste determinations and profiles using process knowledge, safety data, analytical results, and regulatory criteria. Monitor generator status, accumulation times, container limits, storage conditions, and other compliance thresholds. Support preparation of the Biennial Hazardous Waste Report and other waste-related regulatory reports, data requests, and agency responses. Maintain current waste procedures, contingency information, quick-reference materials, inspection forms, and training content. Conduct and document routine inspections of central accumulation areas, satellite accumulation areas, universal-waste areas, battery storage areas, and the waste storage building. Verify containers are compatible, closed, in good condition, correctly labeled, within required accumulation timeframes, and staged with appropriate containment and aisle space. Identify improper segregation, mismatched waste, leaking or damaged containers, housekeeping deficiencies, and other compliance risks; coordinate timely corrective action. Track inspection findings, owners, due dates, and closure evidence, and escalate repeat or high-risk issues to the Environmental Part Lead. Track outbound shipments through receipt of signed final documentation and resolve exceptions, rejected loads, discrepancies, or missing records. Maintain organized cradle-to-grave records, including determinations, profiles, analyses, inspections, manifests, certificates of disposal or recycling, and correspondence. Evaluate contractor performance using safety, compliance, quality, delivery, cost, and continuous-improvement metrics; document service gaps and follow through on corrective actions. Coordinate compliant storage and disposition of end-of-life, damaged, defective, recalled, or otherwise managed batteries in accordance with approved procedures and applicable regulatory or permit conditions. Review waste-service invoices, disposal charges, transportation costs, equipment charges, quantities, and supporting records for accuracy before approval routing. Maintain waste-volume, cost-per-pound, shipment-frequency, inventory, compliance, and contractor-performance data. Identify opportunities to reduce waste generation, contamination, storage risk, unnecessary handling, expedited transportation, and disposal cost while maintaining compliance. Prepare routine waste-program summaries, trends, risks, action items, and performance metrics for environmental leadership. Develop and deliver practical training for employees on waste identification, segregation, labeling, container management, accumulation requirements, and notification procedures. Provide waste-compliance input for new chemicals, process changes, projects, equipment installations, trials, and production changes before implementation. Perform other environmental and waste-management duties as assigned. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or science-related degree or equivalent related experience 3-6+ years of environmental experience Knowledge/Skills: Experience using Microsoft Office products. Effective communication and presentation skills. Ability to manage and lead projects. Ability to work well in a collaborative environment. Effective planning and prioritization skills. Reliable and flexible. Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with contractors and production associates.
