Who will you be working with?
You will work within Wabtec's Corporate Solutions organization and partner closely with Human Resources Technology, Workday product owners, HR process leaders, payroll, benefits, finance, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, data and analytics, and service management teams. You will also collaborate with implementation partners and third-party providers to design reliable integrations across Wabtec's global Workday ecosystem.
This architect-level role provides technical direction for integration strategy, solution design, engineering standards, security, delivery, and operational sustainability. You will guide developers and partners, translate complex business requirements into scalable integration patterns, and serve as a trusted technical advisor across the Workday platform.
How will you make a difference?
- As the Workday Integrations Architect, you will own the architecture and technical governance for integrations connecting Workday with enterprise, HR, payroll, benefits, identity, finance, workforce management, learning, compliance, travel, and other vendor platforms. You will establish reusable patterns, reduce point-to-point complexity, strengthen security and controls, and improve the reliability and supportability of critical data flows.
- The current landscape includes inbound, outbound, and bidirectional solutions using Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, Workday Studio, report-as-a-service (RaaS), Workday web services, APIs, custom reports, document transformations, and secure file delivery. The portfolio supports high-impact processes such as worker lifecycle events, payroll and time, benefits enrollment, identity provisioning, financial and expense interfaces, learning, workforce analytics, and vendor data exchanges.
- You will shape target-state architecture while remaining hands-on enough to review designs, troubleshoot complex failures, guide remediation, and ensure solutions meet Wabtec standards for privacy, security, resiliency, observability, change control, auditability, and global scalability.
What do we want to know about you?You must have:
· Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline and relevant experience.
· Extensive experience designing, building, and supporting Workday integrations in a complex enterprise environment, including responsibility for architecture decisions and technical standards.
· Advanced hands-on expertise with Workday integration technologies such as EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, Workday Studio, Workday web services, REST and SOAP APIs, custom reports, RaaS, calculated fields, document transformation, and orchestration patterns.
· Strong working knowledge of XML, XSLT, JSON, web services, SFTP and managed file transfer, encryption such as PGP, certificates, authentication, and secure data-exchange practices.
· Demonstrated ability to select the right integration pattern based on volume, frequency, latency, security, maintainability, vendor capability, and business criticality.
· Experience architecting integrations supporting multiple Workday domains, such as HCM, Recruiting, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Time, Absence, Talent, Learning, Financials, Expenses, or contingent workforce processes.
· Proven experience leading end-to-end integration delivery, including discovery, architecture, technical design, development oversight, testing, cutover, production readiness, monitoring, support transition, and lifecycle management.
· Strong understanding of Workday security concepts, integration system users, security groups, domain and business-process security, least-privilege access, protection of sensitive HR data, and appropriate segregation of duties.
· Ability to troubleshoot complex integration failures across Workday, middleware, network, identity, vendor, and downstream systems using logs, event history, payload analysis, and structured root-cause methods.
· Experience establishing technical documentation and governance artifacts, including architecture diagrams, interface specifications, data mappings, error-handling standards, runbooks, support models, and design-review records.
· Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to business stakeholders, influence architecture decisions, and provide technical leadership to internal and partner delivery teams.
· Ability to manage competing priorities and provide sound technical judgment for both strategic programs and time-sensitive production issues.
· Must be able and willing to travel as needed, typically less than 10%.
We would love it if you had:
· Workday integration certification or advanced Workday training in Integration, Studio, Extend, Prism, or relevant functional domains.
· Experience serving as a lead architect in a global Workday environment with multiple countries, payroll providers, benefit vendors, identity platforms, workforce-management solutions, and enterprise systems.
· Experience with middleware or integration platform technologies and the ability to define when Workday-native integration, enterprise middleware, event-driven integration, or APIs should be used.
· Experience integrating Workday with platforms and services such as UKG, Smart Recruiters, Active Directory, SailPoint IAM, ServiceNow, Oracle or other ERP platforms, ADP or other payroll providers, benefits carriers, learning platforms, travel and expense systems, and analytics solutions.
· Experience in Workday Extend and Orchestrate.
· Experience in troubleshooting the Business Process Framework.
· Experience in Workday-delivered APIs, and modern event-driven or near-real-time integration patterns.
· Experience in using tools like Soap UI or Postman.
· Experience with DevOps practices for Workday integrations, including source control, automated deployment, repeatable migration, regression testing, release management, and environment governance.
· Experience monitoring, alerting, service-level objectives, operational dashboards, and proactive trend analysis for critical integrations.
· Strong knowledge of data privacy, retention, audit, SOX, regulatory, and cross-border data considerations relevant to global HR and payroll data.
· Experience rationalizing a large integration portfolio, retiring deprecated interfaces, reducing duplicate designs, and creating reusable frameworks, naming conventions, and architecture patterns.
· Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, payroll transformations, vendor transitions, and large-scale Workday releases.
· Experience mentoring integration developers, reviewing technical designs and code, and raising engineering capability across internal teams and implementation partners.
· Workday functional knowledge sufficient to understand business-process impacts, effective-dating, supervisory organizations, staffing models, worker data, payroll timing, benefits events, and downstream data dependencies.
What will your typical day look like?
· Lead architecture discussions with HR Technology, functional product owners, security, enterprise architecture, business stakeholders, and vendors to translate requirements into secure, scalable integration designs.
· Assess new demand and select the appropriate delivery pattern, such as EIB, Core Connector, Cloud Connect, Workday Studio, RaaS, workday web services, event-driven design, or enterprise middleware.
· Create and review solution architecture, interface specifications, data mappings, sequence flows, transformation logic, security design, scheduling, error handling, reconciliation, recovery, and support requirements.
· Experience in building workday custom reports and proficiency in calculated fields.
· Provide technical direction and design approval for integrations spanning worker lifecycle, recruiting, US and global payroll, time and attendance, benefits, compensation, identity, financial and expense data, learning, analytics, and third-party vendors.
· Review technical builds and deployment plans for alignment with architecture standards, reusable patterns, naming conventions, least-privilege security, data minimization, performance, and operational supportability.
· Partner with integration developers and implementation vendors to remove design blockers, resolve complex defects, and ensure solutions are delivered with high quality and clear accountability.
· Investigate failed or degraded integrations by analyzing Workday integration events, Studio logs, reports, payloads, transformations, authentication, certificates, delivery endpoints, and downstream acknowledgements.
· Guide to root-cause analysis and corrective action for recurring issues, including stronger validation, reconciliation, alerting, retry, idempotency, file-control, and exception-management patterns.
· Evaluate the existing integration portfolio for deprecated connectors, duplicate interfaces, unsupported designs, weak ownership, security exposure, manual dependencies, and opportunities for modernization or retirement.
· Maintaining architecture roadmaps and standards for inbound, outbound, and bidirectional integrations, balancing immediate business needs with a sustainable target-state ecosystem.
· Coordinate Workday release impact assessments and regression planning, identifying integrations affected by API, security, report, business-process, or data-model changes.
· Ensure each production integration has complete technical documentation, clear business and technical ownership, monitoring, runbooks, support escalation paths, recovery procedures, and lifecycle plans.
· Advise project and product leaders on effort, technical risk, sequencing, vendor readiness, data dependencies, testing strategy, cutover requirements, and production-readiness criteria.
· Facilitate architecture and design reviews, coach technical resources, and communicate decisions and risks in a concise manner to both technical and executive stakeholders.
· Partner with cybersecurity, privacy, audit, and compliance teams to ensure integration controls protect sensitive employee and financial data and support audit readiness.
· Continuously improve integration engineering practices through templates, reusable components, automation, metrics, quality gates, knowledge sharing, and lessons learned.
