Web Application Engineer (TypeScript / Node.js) — Tokyo

Building the conversation between investors and companies

More than 200 investor meetings a year — and at many listed companies, they are still being scheduled over email.

Shared Research produces equity research on Japanese companies for institutional investors in Japan and abroad, and builds IR One, an IR communication platform. What we make is software that removes the friction sitting between listed companies and their investors, one piece at a time.

We're looking for a Web Application Engineer to build it with us.

Why we're hiring: writing code got faster. The bottleneck moved downstream.

AI has made code noticeably faster to produce. That's true of our own work — implementation takes a fraction of the time it used to, and the range of what we can build has widened.

What hasn't changed is the step where someone decides "this is ready to ship." That still depends on human judgment. To be straightforward about it: our bottleneck right now is code review.

So we are looking less for someone who writes quickly, and more for someone who reads deeply.

This role comes with a lot of autonomy — which is exactly why we need someone we can hand things to.

What you'll be working on

• IR One — an IR communication platform that handles meeting scheduling, dialogue and information sharing between listed companies and institutional investors, end to end
• Research report editing system — the core system our analysts use to produce and publish research
• Anonima — an anonymous communication service for corporate clients

What the role involves

You'll be involved across the full cycle, from early design through to operations.

• Building new features and maintaining existing ones
• Infrastructure setup and operations
• Incident response
• Writing and executing test plans
• Bug fixes and technical support

You'll work with our teams in Japan and China, in close contact with the executive team and the new business group, building the systems the whole company runs on.

Requirements

Must have

• Currently living in Japan, able to commute to our office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
• Business-level Japanese (the working language of our office)
• 3+ years designing, building and operating production services in React / Node.js
• MongoDB schema design, indexing, and performance tuning of aggregation pipelines
• Feature design and development that takes UI and UX seriously from the user's point of view, down to the details
• Production experience on GCP (or AWS), and a working knowledge of infrastructure fundamentals — networking, DNS and security
• A solid grasp of authentication and authorization (OAuth, role-based permissions) and security
• Development built around unit and E2E testing, and experience with code review
• Reliability and integrity in how you work, and the ability to collaborate with the team

Nice to have

• Feature development using LLMs (OpenAI API and similar)
• Product improvement using GA4 / Microsoft Clarity
• Business-level English
• The creativity to bring new ideas to the table

Our CEO and some of our colleagues are not Japanese nationals, but Japanese is the main language used in the office. English is not a requirement.

On work status: For candidates already living in Japan, we support changes and renewals to your status of residence. We are not able to consider applications from candidates based overseas.

The kind of engineer we're looking for

• Someone who notices the details. Naming consistency across variables and APIs, gaps in error handling, boundary cases in tests. Someone who fixes them now rather than filing them under "later"
• Someone who reads their own code as a reviewer would before opening a PR. Catching it yourself before someone else has to is, to us, what skill looks like
• Someone comfortable running several things in parallel
• Someone who communicates as they go

Terms and conditions

Employment type: Full-time (probation period of 3 to 6 months; salary is unchanged during this period)

Annual salary: ¥5,000,000 – ¥10,000,000, determined based on experience, skills, age and current compensation Fixed monthly salary from ¥416,667

The salary range above does not include the office attendance allowance.

If you come into the office four or more days a week (four hours or more per day), you receive an additional ¥40,000 per month — ¥480,000 a year on top of the range above.

Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo Remote work available up to three days a week, by arrangement. Attendance in the office is expected during the probation period.

Working hours: Discretionary work system (sairyo rodo sei) — you manage how you distribute your own working hours, with a standard working day of 8 hours plus a 1-hour break, and standard hours of 9:00–18:00. There is no core time in the formal sense, but we ask that you generally work between 11:00 and 16:00 so the team can overlap.

Holidays: 120+ days a year, two-day weekends (Sat/Sun), public holidays, Golden Week, New Year, paid leave, parental leave, compassionate leave, plus our own "+ Leave".

Benefits: Full social insurance, full commuting allowance, company-leased housing, office attendance allowance, lunch subsidy, three early-finish "anniversary" days a year, free drinks, casual dress (business attire for client meetings)

A note on how the salary is structured: The fixed monthly salary includes a fixed late-night allowance covering 40 hours. If late-night work exceeds 40 hours in a month, the difference is paid separately. Because this is a discretionary work role, you decide how to distribute your hours — the structure is not built on an expectation of late-night work.

応募資格

必須（MUST）

• 日本在住で、東京都千代田区のオフィスに出社可能な方
• 日本語：ビジネスレベル（社内の共通言語は日本語です）
• React / Node.js での本番サービスの設計・開発・運用経験（3年以上）
• MongoDB のスキーマ設計、インデックス設計、集計パイプラインのパフォーマンス改善
• ユーザー視点でUI/UXを考慮し、細部まで意識した機能設計・開発ができること
• GCP（またはAWS）での本番運用経験、およびネットワーク・DNS・セキュリティなどインフラ全般に関する基本的な知識
• 認証・認可（OAuth、ロールごとの権限設計）とセキュリティへの理解
• 単体テスト・E2Eテストを前提とした開発と、コードレビューの経験
• 業務に対する責任感と誠実さ、チームメンバーと連携・協力して働けること

働き方・労働条件

雇用形態：正社員（試用期間3ヶ月〜最大6ヶ月／期間中の給与に差異はありません）

年収：500万円〜1,000万円（経験・能力・年齢・前職給与を考慮のうえ決定） 月額固定給 416,667円以上

※ 上記年収に出社手当は含まれていません。 週4日以上（1日あたり4時間以上）出社された場合、月額40,000円（年額480,000円相当）の出社手当を支給します。上記年収レンジに加算されます。

勤務地：東京都千代田区　リモート勤務制度あり（最大週3日まで／要相談。試用期間中は原則出社）

勤務時間：裁量労働制／標準労働時間8時間（標準労働時間帯 9:00〜18:00、休憩1時間） 規程上のコアタイムはありませんが、チームとの連携のため11:00〜16:00を目安に勤務いただいています。

休日休暇：年間休日120日以上／完全週休2日制（土日）／祝日／GW・年末年始／有給休暇／産休育休／慶弔休暇／「+休暇」（当社オリジナル）

待遇・福利厚生：各種社会保険完備／交通費全額支給／借上社宅制度／出社手当／ランチ補助／アニバーサリー早帰り（年3回）／フリードリンク／私服OK

給与内訳について：月額固定給には、固定深夜手当（40時間相当）を含みます。40時間を超える深夜勤務が発生した場合は別途支給します。裁量労働制のため、働く時間の配分はご本人の裁量にお任せしており、深夜労働を前提とした制度ではありません。
