The Academic Communications Specialist supports the Department's academic, scholarly, and strategic communication initiatives through professional writing, editing, content development, publication management, and scholarly activity tracking. This position serves as a central resource for faculty manuscript preparation and publication support, executive communications for departmental leadership, website and digital content management, and the collection, analysis, and reporting of publication data and other academic metrics. The Academic Communications Specialist collaborates with faculty, staff, and leadership to ensure communications are accurate, engaging, timely, and aligned with departmental and institutional goals while supporting faculty advancement, academic recognition, and career development through the effective documentation and promotion of scholarly accomplishments; and other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred 5- 10 years of experience in writing/editing medical, academic, scientific, or other technical material Certification by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS) is preferred Total Rewards The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
