Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia and Fredericton and Sackville, New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Manager, Academic Accommodations and Accessibility, we are hiring an Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist to join our student support team. As our new Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist, you will work directly with students with disability needs and other protected human rights needs, providing individualized learning strategies and ADHD coaching support to help them navigate barriers to academic success. You will focus on executive functioning, organization, time management, study skills, and self-advocacy, while also reviewing supporting documentation, developing academic accommodation plans, and connecting students with appropriate resources and services across the University.

This is an existing, full-time hybrid role based at our Toronto campus (120 Bloor St. West), working four days per week on campus and one day remotely. Regular working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. dependent on operational needs.

What’s in it for you

Impact on student success. This role offers the opportunity to play a meaningful part in helping students reach their academic potential. Acting as a bridge between learning strategies, accessibility accommodations, and campus resources, you will directly influence how students navigate their academic journey. Your work will help ensure students have the tools, strategies, and support they need to succeed in an accessible and inclusive learning environment.

A collaborative environment. You will work within a supportive, student-focused team and partner closely with faculty, program staff, and campus services to deliver holistic student support. This role offers the chance to build strong professional relationships across the University while contributing to a community committed to equity, accessibility, and inclusive education.

Professional growth and national exposure. Yorkville University operates across multiple provinces, providing exposure to post-secondary accessibility frameworks, assistive technologies, and evolving learning strategies that support diverse learners. Through workshops, resource development, and collaboration with faculty and student services teams, you will expand your expertise while helping shape accessible learning practices across the institution.

As our new Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist, you will:

  • Deliver individualized learning strategies. You will work one-on-one with students with disabilities and other learning needs to understand their strengths, challenges, and academic goals. You will develop and apply practical learning strategies focused on executive functioning, time management, organization, study skills, and self-advocacy, adapting your approach as students’ needs evolve.
  • Coordinate accommodations and accessibility support. You will review psychoeducational and other supporting documentation, develop individualized academic accommodation plans, and coordinate accommodations such as assistive technologies, extended exam or assignment times, and accessible materials. You will maintain accurate and confidential records and monitor the effectiveness of accommodations and learning strategies to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Connect students to the right support. You will take a holistic approach to student needs, recognizing when additional support may be beneficial and connecting students with the appropriate resources and services across the University. You will collaborate with colleagues across student services and academic teams to help students navigate their university experience and access the support available to them.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff. You will partner with faculty, program heads, and staff to promote accessible and inclusive learning practices and provide guidance on supporting diverse learning needs. You will develop and deliver workshops, training materials, and resources that build awareness and strengthen accessibility practices across the University.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement. You will stay current on learning strategies, ADHD and executive functioning support, accessibility practices, assistive technologies, and relevant resources. You will use your experience and insights from working directly with students to identify opportunities to strengthen learning and accessibility support across the University.

You bring:

  • Learning strategy experience. You have hands-on experience developing and applying individualized learning strategies for students or learners, with a strong understanding of disabilities and executive functioning challenges. You know how to translate an individual’s needs into practical strategies for time management, organization, study skills, and self-advocacy. Your experience may come from a post-secondary institution, secondary school, learning strategy organization, or another relevant educational setting.
  • Assistive Technology familiarity. You are familiar with assistive technology tools, including text-to-speech and speech-to-text options. You can review learner needs, provide recommendations, and guide students on how to use the technology in their learning,
  • The accessibility knowledge. You have an understanding of accessibility, disability, and accommodation practices and are comfortable reviewing documentation and applying information to develop individual student accommodation plans. Familiarity with Canadian accessibility legislation, post-secondary accommodation processes, and assistive technologies is an asset. You are motivated to deepen your knowledge of academic accommodations and accessibility practices within a university environment.
  • The student-centred approach. You know how to build trust with students and adapt your communication and approach to individual needs. You listen with empathy and professionalism, maintain appropriate boundaries, and can recognize when a student would benefit from additional support and connect them with the appropriate resources.
  • The organizational skills. You can manage a varied student caseload and competing priorities while maintaining accurate records and protecting confidential and sensitive information. You are comfortable using digital tools, learning platforms, and technology to organize your work and support students effectively. You can maintain accurate and confidential records of accommodation requests, approvals, and implementations. As well as records of coaching sessions, student progress, and intervention effectiveness.
  • The collaborative mindset. You build productive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other partners. You can communicate recommendations clearly, contribute your expertise while remaining open to other perspectives, and work collaboratively to create accessible and inclusive learning experiences.
