At a glance:

The Account Director is a senior agency leader responsible for leading integrated, cross-channel campaigns for our clients. As the primary client partner and internal facilitator, this role drives strategic planning, campaign execution, business results, and opportunities for client and agency growth.

While this is a remote position, periodic travel and accommodating meetings in different time zones is expected.

Preference may be given to candidates in the Central Time Zone.

What Does an Account Director do at Rain?

  • Lead Client Relationships & Strategy
    • Serve as the primary client contact and strategic partner, building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
    • Lead cross-functional teams across media, analytics, strategy, creative, web development, finance, and project management.
    • Own integrated campaign strategy and execution, from briefs and planning through performance evaluation and optimization.
    • Establish goals, budgets, KPIs, and priorities with clients and internal teams.
    • Develop a deep understanding of clients' businesses, industries, competitive landscapes, and growth opportunities.
    • Identify opportunities to expand agency scope and develop solutions with agency SMEs.
    • Lead client meetings and confidently present performance, creative, strategic, and financial recommendations.
    • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and align with client objectives.
    • Oversee budgets, forecasts, invoicing, and overall client health.
  • Lead Integrated Campaigns
    • Drive seamless execution across media, analytics, strategy, creative, and other agency disciplines. Act as the connective tissue across teams, ensuring strategy translates cleanly into media plans, creative briefs, and measurement — without getting lost between disciplines. Spot dependencies and bottlenecks early (e.g., creative timelines vs. media flight dates) and resolve them before they become client-facing issues.
    • Partner with media and analytics teams to evaluate performance, identify insights that tell a clear story that drive testing and optimization decisions. Turn raw data into a narrative that explains why something's happening and what to do next. Work with analysts to build testing roadmaps (creative, audience, channel mix) prioritized by impact and confidence, pushing teams from "here's what happened" to "here's what we should do."
    • Collaborate with channel leads on reporting, learnings, and recommended next steps. Set a consistent cadence with channel leads for surfacing trends and creative fatigue signals. Synthesize channel-specific learnings into cross-channel takeaways, and translate technical detail into clear, client-ready recommendations tied to business goals.Partner with senior leadership to proactively address performance, financial, and staffing needs. Flag risks and opportunities early, with a point of view on the fix — not just the problem. Monitor account profitability and scope creep, partner on budget and SOW conversations, and anticipate staffing gaps before they become a crunch.
  • Lead & Develop the Client Services Team
    • Lead, coach, and develop high-performing Client Services team members.
    • Foster collaboration, strong cross-functional relationships, and efficient workflows.
    • Build a resourceful, accountable, and solutions-oriented team culture.
  • What makes a great Account Director at our agency?

    • 8+ years of advertising agency experience, preferably in media and/or creative, with 1–3+ years of management or mentorship experience.
    • Proven success leading integrated, cross-channel strategies and building strong client relationships.
    • Strong understanding of full-funnel media, performance marketing, and associated KPIs.
    • Experience with digital media, including Paid Social, Paid Search, Video, Programmatic, and CTV.
    • Traditional media experience, including Linear, Audio and OOH
    • Experience working with DTC brands and leading strategic creative development.
    • A passion for data, specifically have the ability to build pivots and conduct sales and performance data analysis.
    • Experience leading large, cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Willingness to travel and support clients beyond standard hours when needed.
    • Chicago-area a plus
    • Website strategy and development management experience a plus

Target Base Salary: $121 - $155K

Base salary is determined based on a wide range of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, job duties, and needs of the business. Base salary is one part of our total compensation package, which includes benefits, perks, and a profit-sharing bonus.
