Help employers make smarter benefits decisions. Build relationships that matter. Grow your career.
At Deland, Gibson, we believe employee benefits should do more than renew year after year. The right strategy helps employers manage costs, support their people, and build stronger organizations.
We’re looking for an Account Manager, Employee Benefits who enjoys building trusted client relationships, solving complex challenges, and delivering thoughtful, proactive benefits guidance. In this role, you’ll serve as a key advisor to a portfolio of employer clients, helping them navigate renewals, evaluate plan performance, explore funding strategies, and make informed decisions about their employee benefits programs.
If you’re an employee benefits professional who wants to take ownership of client relationships, contribute ideas, and continue developing your expertise, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role
As an Account Manager, you’ll partner with clients, producers, insurance carriers, and internal teams to deliver a high level of service while identifying opportunities to improve plan performance, strengthen client retention, and support business growth.
This is an opportunity to combine technical benefits knowledge with relationship management and strategic problem-solving. You’ll have meaningful ownership of your accounts and the opportunity to make a measurable difference for the employers and employees you serve.
What You’ll Do
Client Relationship Management & Strategic Advising
- Build strong, lasting relationships with client stakeholders, insurance carriers, vendors, and internal partners.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on benefit plan design, funding arrangements, carrier options, and strategies aligned with each client's goals.
- Partner with producers to strengthen client retention, identify growth opportunities, and support cross-selling initiatives.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve the client experience, plan performance, and long-term benefits strategy.
Renewals, Analytics & Plan Strategy
- Lead the annual renewal process, including claims and utilization analysis, financial reviews, carrier negotiations, benefit comparisons, and proposal development.
- Analyze claims experience, plan utilization, and renewal data to identify trends and develop actionable recommendations.
- Prepare and present renewal analyses, stewardship reports, employee presentations, and other client-facing materials.
- Evaluate fully insured and self-funded plan options and support strategic discussions around alternative funding arrangements.
- Review carrier contracts, plan documents, benefit summaries, and client communications for accuracy.
Benefits Administration & Client Support
- Coordinate new client implementations, carrier transitions, plan changes, and terminations.
- Plan and execute open enrollment activities, including employee communications, meetings, and enrollment system setup.
- Manage benefit applications, submissions, eligibility updates, enrollment feeds, and carrier reconciliations.
- Partner with carriers, vendors, and internal accounting resources to resolve escalated claims, billing, eligibility, and member-service issues.
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation using Applied Epic, Employee Navigator, and carrier platforms.
- Coordinate client deliverables, compliance notices, renewal milestones, and follow-up activities to ensure deadlines are met.
Compliance & Collaboration
- Support compliance initiatives related to ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125, Medicare Part D, FMLA, Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), and applicable state requirements.
- Collaborate with producers, underwriters, carriers, vendors, and colleagues to deliver effective, coordinated client solutions.
- Stay current on industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging employee benefits strategies.
What You’ll Bring
- At least 1 year of employee benefits account management experience.
- An active Massachusetts Life & Health license, or the ability to obtain one.
- Strong client relationship management skills and a commitment to delivering responsive, high-quality service.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to interpret claims, utilization, financial, and renewal data.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to lead client and employee meetings.
- The ability to manage multiple accounts, competing priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A high level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential client and employee information.
- Proficiency in Applied Epic.
Experience that will help you stand out:
- Supporting self-funded, captive, or large-group employee benefits accounts, particularly groups with 100 or more enrolled lives.
