Job Title: Financial Data Analyst Accounting & Reporting AnalyticsJob Description

This role combines accounting expertise with advanced analytics to transform large volumes of financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership. You will build automated dashboards and reports, explain the drivers behind financial trends and variances, and recommend process and control improvements. The position is best understood as a hybrid between an Accountant II and a Financial Data Analyst, offering a pathway out of purely transactional work into analytics, automation, and reporting ownership within a stable, growth-focused finance organization.

Responsibilities
  • Transform large volumes of accounting and financial data into clear, actionable insights that help leadership understand not just what changed, but why it changed and what to do next.
  • Build accounting and finance dashboards and reports that provide interactive, visual insights into key financial metrics and trends.
  • Use Alteryx to prepare, combine, and automate financial datasets, creating repeatable workflows that support reporting and analytics.
  • Use advanced visualization tools to turn data into interactive dashboards and visual reporting that stakeholders can easily interpret and use.
  • Leverage ServiceNow data and workflows where appropriate to support operational reporting and integrated analytics.
  • Create, track, and refine key performance indicators (KPIs) and other measurable indicators that show whether financial and operational processes are performing as expected.
  • Analyze general ledger, subledger, cash, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR) data to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes.
  • Explain the drivers behind financial trends and variances rather than simply reporting them, clearly articulating the underlying causes to leadership and business partners.
  • Identify financial, operational, control, and data-quality risks based on detailed analysis of financial and operational datasets.
  • Recommend process and control improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and data quality across accounting and finance operations.
  • Support accounting close and financial reporting activities by providing timely analytics, reconciliations support, and variance explanations.
  • Document data sources, calculations, assumptions, and analytical processes so that dashboards and reports are transparent, repeatable, and auditable.
  • Present findings, dashboards, and recommendations to senior leadership and business stakeholders in a clear, concise, and visually compelling manner.
  • Contribute to the automation of variance analysis, forecasting, and anomaly detection, helping to move the organization toward more proactive and predictive analytics.
  • Collaborate with shared-services, accounting, and finance teams to align reporting, data governance, and process automation initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • Strong accounting and financial reporting foundation, with the ability to understand and interpret general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, close processes, and financial statements.
  • At least 2+ years of financial or accounting analytics experience within a finance or accounting organization, such as financial analytics, accounting analytics, finance transformation, or reporting automation.
  • Experience using Alteryx, Tableau, or comparable advanced analytics and business intelligence tools to build workflows, dashboards, automated reporting, data preparation pipelines, and KPI reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining KPIs and dashboards, including defining meaningful metrics that stakeholders can act on.
  • Proven root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to dig into data to determine the underlying reasons behind financial results, trends, and anomalies.
  • Bachelors degree combined with approximately 4 years of relevant professional experience and at least 2 years of focused financial/accounting analytics work.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting activities such as journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR processing, close activities, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to explain complex financial and analytical findings in clear, non-technical language to leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, documentation, and data governance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with ServiceNow for data, workflows, and operational reporting.
  • SAP or other ERP system experience, particularly in a shared-services or centralized finance environment.
  • Exposure to shared-services accounting operations and related analytics, including process monitoring and performance measurement.
  • Experience with forecasting, anomaly detection, and advanced analytical techniques that support proactive decision-making.
  • Strong senior-leadership presentation skills, including the ability to design compelling visual stories and communicate insights with confidence.
  • Background or interest in process automation, reporting automation, and data governance initiatives.
  • Experience supporting or leading finance transformation projects, reporting modernization, or analytics enablement.
  • Interest in moving beyond transactional accounting into analytics, automation, and continuous improvement.
Work Environment

The role operates in a hybrid space between traditional accounting and advanced financial data analytics, similar to an Accountant II combined with a Financial Data Analyst. You will work closely with general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, journal entries, AP/AR, billings, and related finance activities, while focusing on turning that data into dashboards, KPIs, root-cause analysis, and process improvements using tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, and ServiceNow. The environment emphasizes long-term stability, technical growth, and exposure to analytics and automation, with a contract-to-hire pathway and strong leadership visibility. You will have the opportunity to move beyond purely transactional accounting into owning reporting, designing automated solutions, and contributing to finance transformation within a recognizable aerospace and defenseoriented setting. The culture values general accounting excellence, disciplined close processes, and continuous improvement in reporting and analytics.
