Accountant / Finance Specialist

Location: Fully remote

Hours: Full-time

Contract duration: One year, with the possibility of extension

ZIVA is hiring an Accountant / Finance Specialist for our client, Cumorah Academy. A nonprofit leadership academy helping young adults develop character, leadership, and purpose. This fully remote, full-time role will support the day-to-day financial operations of Cumorah Academy’s Czech entities. The position offers a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.

About Cumorah Academy

Cumorah Academy is a nonprofit leadership academy for young adults, committed to developing character, leadership, and purpose alongside professional excellence.

We operate in a mission-driven, high-trust, high-expectation culture. We do not believe in separating who you are from how you work. Every role at Cumorah Academy directly influences students, families, donors, partners, and future leaders.

This role exists to keep the financial operations of our Czech entities accurate, organized, and dependable in support of that mission. At Cumorah Academy, we believe in helping people develop their potential, take responsibility, and grow into leaders, and we are looking for someone who shares that mindset.

Position Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Accountant / Finance Specialist to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial administration of our Czech entities.

The ideal candidate has practical accounting experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in English. Familiarity with Czech law, particularly accounting and tax regulations, is preferred.

The role involves managing invoices, payments, bank reconciliations, accounting records, and coordinating with external accountants to ensure accurate and timely financial operations.

This position is exclusively responsible for our Czech entities and does not include accounting responsibilities for our English-speaking entities.

This is a fully remote position offered on a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable: Receive, review, code, and process supplier invoices; prepare payments and monitor outstanding invoices.
  • Accounts Receivable: Issue customer invoices, monitor incoming payments, and follow up on overdue receivables.
  • Banking: Record and categorize bank transactions, perform bank reconciliations, and prepare payment orders.
  • Accounting: Maintain accurate accounting records, review general ledger accounts, and assist with monthly and annual closing.
  • Tax and Compliance: Coordinate with external accountants on VAT returns, tax filings, and statutory reporting.
  • Payroll: Assist with payroll processing and employee and contractor payments.
  • Financial Administration: Maintain financial documentation, prepare budgets and accounting summaries, and support audits and banking requests.

What Success Looks Like

  • Bank transactions are recorded and reconciled on a regular schedule, with no unexplained differences.
  • Supplier invoices are processed and paid on time, and outstanding payables are always clear.
  • Customer invoices go out promptly, and overdue receivables are followed up consistently.
  • Monthly and annual closing is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • VAT returns, tax filings, and statutory reports are prepared with the external accountants and submitted before every deadline.
  • Payroll and contractor payments are accurate and on time.
  • Financial records and documentation are complete, organized, and ready for audits or banking requests.
  • Leadership has a clear, up-to-date picture of the Czech entities’ financial position.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take responsibility, and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable, proactive, and solution-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Czech law, particularly accounting practices, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Czech VAT and tax reporting.
  • Experience with payroll processing.
  • Experience working with external accounting firms.
  • Familiarity with the accounting system ABRA Flexi.

You May Be a Great Fit If You Are

  • Someone who takes pride in accurate, well-documented work.
  • Comfortable owning the accounting for multiple entities with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Quick to notice discrepancies and follow them through to resolution.
  • A clear communicator who keeps external accountants, colleagues, and leadership informed.
  • Willing to ask questions when something is unclear rather than making assumptions.
  • Interested in contributing throughout a one-year contract, with openness to a possible extension.
  • Connected to Cumorah Academy’s mission and interested in contributing to a values-driven organization.

Culture and Values

Cumorah Academy is not culture-neutral. This role is only a fit for someone who feels aligned with the following expectations and values.

Core Expectations

Every team member at Cumorah Academy is expected to live these daily:

  • Integrity: 100% honest, transparent, and trustworthy
  • Passion: Deep care for meaningful, mission-driven work
  • Commitment: Ownership of responsibilities and follow-through
  • Work Ethic: 100% best effort, even when unobserved

  • Growth: Making informed choices and accepting their outcomes
  • Christlike Leadership: Leading with love and lifting those around you
  • Impact: Building a better world together
  • Joy: Finding meaning in the journey, amidst adversity and blessings

If these values feel misaligned or uncomfortable for you, this role is likely not a good fit, and we respect that clarity.

What We Offer

  • A one-year contract, with the possibility of extension.
  • Full-time work with flexibility around your schedule.
  • 100% remote work.
  • An international and purpose-driven working environment.
  • Opportunities to gradually take on more responsibility.
  • Potential for career growth and progression within the organization.
