Salary Range: $28.42 To $35.00 Hourly

As an Accountant, you will prepare, submit, review, analyze, and report tax- and expense-related exhibits and schedules used in financial reporting, regulatory filings, budgeting, planning, and statutory reporting. You will also prepare and review monthly reports and respond to inquiries and requests from external sources.

As a Senior Accountant, you will perform the Accountant responsibilities while taking on more complex work and broader reporting support. Additional duties include preparing exhibits and schedules for quarterly and annual subsidiary financial statement filings and tax reporting, supporting Company financial statements and analytics, responding to external agencies and auditors, and assisting with employee training.


This position may offer flexibility through a telecommuting arrangement and can be performed from either the Greater Houston or Greater Binghamton area. If you reside in the Greater Houston or Greater Binghamton area, this may be an opportunity for you!


Description of Duties & Responsibilities of an Accountant or Senior Accountant:

  • Prepare and submit various state income tax forms & filing forms for parent, subsidiary companies and nonprofit. Prepare sales tax returns, premium and municipal taxes, state tax forms and various workpapers to support federal income taxes.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements expenses, taxes, licenses and fees for budgeting, forecasting, planning, and statutory reporting.
  • Act as Third Party Administrator to prepare monthly financial reports for MetLife.
  • Create, review and approve general ledger entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts. Prepare and review bank reconciliations and assist in daily banking transactions.
  • Work with various departments on correcting accounting entries and accounting and internal audit training. Research accounting variances; assist auditors with supporting documentation, correspond with advisors and custodian representatives

Additional description of Duties & Responsibilities of a Senior Accountant:

  • Handle more complex processing issues, provide processing support and assist with training.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from tax agencies, auditors, regulatory agencies and other external sources.
  • Prepare various statutory exhibits under the review and supervision of Management.
  • Work with Management to create dashboards and analytics in Adaptive software.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Accounting is required for the Accountant position. Internship experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Accounting is required for the Senior Accountant position.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting is required.
  • Experience with accounting software (especially QuickBooks) is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.


Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. Accountant (CPA) Certification is preferred for the Senior Accountant position.


Pay Range:

Accountant: $28.42 to $35.00 hourly

Senior Accountant: $77,000 to $90,000 annually


The starting pay rate for this role is based on a variety of relevant factors, including location, education, experience, and skills.

The level for this position will be determined based on factors including relevant skills, experience and other qualifications.
