Position Type: Temporary, part-time (minimum 30 hours per week) – October 1 through November 30, 2026, with possible extension
GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION:

The Temporary Accountant position will provide accounting and program-finance support to the Fiscal team during a staff leave. The role keeps contract and grant billing, revenue and receivable reconciliations, and budget monitoring current so that programs and funders are served without interruption. The accountant is an experienced professional who can step in quickly, work within established internal controls, and meet monthly close deadlines. The Controller sets priorities, deadlines, and system access for the assignment. This role reports to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Revenue & AR Reconciliation: Reconcile billed and unbilled contract and grant revenue, including the revenue billing/unbilled revenue schedule (MRR), to the general ledger, funder portals, remittances, and payments received. Maintain the accounts receivable (AR) aging and flag collection or aging concerns to the Controller.
- Key Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations of billing-related accounts, including grants and accounts receivable, unbilled/accrued revenue, and deferred revenue, and resolve reconciling items timely.
- Variance Analysis: Prepare budget-to-actual analyses by program and contract. Identify and explain significant variances, deficits, overspending, and revenue shortfalls, and recommend needed follow-up.
- Grant Monitoring & Billing: Monitor grant budgets, spending rates, time restrictions, and compliance requirements. Prepare assigned grant and contract billings and related revenue entries.
- Month-End Close Support: Support the monthly close for billing, revenue accruals, revenue recognition, indirect cost treatment, and related schedules.
- Budget & Forecast Support: Assist with forecasts and budgets for assigned programs as requested.
- Audit Support: Provide schedules and supporting documentation for billing, AR, and grant revenue, and respond to auditor and funder inquiries timely.
- Internal Controls & Confidentiality: Follow CCSCC policies, segregation-of-duties requirements, and funder terms. Do not approve own entries, reconciliations, or payments. Use only CCSCC-approved systems, protect confidential client, employee, donor, and financial information, and report any suspected security or privacy incident immediately.
- Documentation & Timekeeping: Maintain complete, orderly workpapers in CCSCC-approved locations. Record all hours worked accurately; overtime or hours beyond the approved schedule require the Controller’s advance approval.
- Other Duties: Perform other related accounting duties as assigned by the Controller.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Solid knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including nonprofit GAAP (ASC 958), fund accounting, restricted/unrestricted revenue, and indirect cost treatment.
- Working knowledge of grant and contract billing, revenue recognition, and AR management.
- Demonstrated experience preparing account reconciliations and supporting month-end close.
- Skilled in budget-to-actual and variance analysis.
- Familiarity with grant compliance under federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) preferred.
- Proficient in intermediate to advanced Excel; experience with MIP Abila and Adaptive a plus.
- Able to step in quickly and work independently with minimal onboarding.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment in handling confidential information.
- Organized, with clear written and verbal communication and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an approved related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or multi-funder grant environment.
- Experience supporting a financial audit or Single Audit preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform computer-based office work using a laptop or computer terminal, communicate by telephone or similar technology, and move within an office environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Normal sitting and walking.
