Who We Are:

Sterling-Rice Group (SRG) is an independent, privately held brand consultancy and advertising agency headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. We bring together strategic thinkers, creative minds, and talented people to help brands solve challenges, uncover opportunities, and bring big ideas to life.

We're a collaborative, creative, and fun group of people who genuinely love what we do. SRG offers a unique work environment where you'll work alongside incredibly talented colleagues, gain exposure to fascinating clients and projects, and be part of a team that values fresh thinking, meaningful relationships, and having fun along the way.

The Opportunity:

We're looking for an experienced, personable, and proactive Accounting Manager to join our Operations team!

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of accounting but also loves working with people, solving problems, improving processes, and making a meaningful impact on a business.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll play a key role in managing SRG's day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records and reporting, and ensuring our financial processes run smoothly. You'll also supervise and support our Accounts Payable Specialist while partnering with colleagues across the organization.

We're a small, hands-on team, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, taking ownership, and wearing multiple hats. You'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, improve how we work, embrace new technologies, and grow into additional responsibilities as you learn the business.

Above all, we're looking for someone who brings strong accounting expertise, sound judgment, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine desire to help the team succeed.

What You'll Do:

General Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial analyses for CFO review.
  • Identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies while maintaining accurate and reliable financial records.
  • Support annual audits, tax preparation, and other financial reporting requirements in partnership with the CFO and external advisors.

Accounts Payable, Receivable & Client Billing:

  • Oversee accounts payable operations, ensuring accurate invoice processing, appropriate approvals, timely payments, and effective vendor management.
  • Supervise and support our Accounts Payable Specialist, providing guidance on daily priorities, problem-solving, and process improvement.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities, including client billing, payment tracking, collections, and account reconciliations.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely client invoicing, expense allocation, and project-related financial reporting.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables, payment schedules, and cash activity to support effective financial management.
  • Serve as a resource for colleagues, vendors, and clients in resolving billing questions and discrepancies.

Payroll & Financial Administration:

  • Process accurate and timely semimonthly payroll through ADP Workforce Now, partnering closely with Human Resources to ensure payroll accuracy and appropriate documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of payroll expenses, benefit-related transactions, and other employee-related financial obligations.
  • Support employee expense reimbursements, corporate credit card reconciliations, and other financial administration activities.
  • Maintain bank reconciliations, cash reporting, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist the CFO with cash flow reporting, forecasting, and other financial planning activities.

Financial Operations & Process Improvement:

  • Partner with the CFO to maintain effective accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve accuracy, enhance reporting, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis through reporting, data preparation, and identification of trends or discrepancies.
  • Help maintain and optimize accounting systems, financial tools, and reporting processes.
  • Embrace technology, automation, and the thoughtful integration of AI tools to improve everyday accounting processes and help the team work smarter.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and ensure adherence to company policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist with special projects and other Business Operations initiatives as needed.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support to the Accounts Payable Specialist, including workload prioritization, professional development, and performance expectations.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and accountable team environment that emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with the CFO to establish priorities, solve problems, and support the financial health of the organization.
  • Build strong working relationships with Human Resources, Client Operations, and colleagues throughout SRG.
  • Serve as a dependable and approachable accounting resource, helping colleagues navigate financial questions and processes.
  • Communicate financial information clearly and professionally to people with varying levels of accounting knowledge.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and employee information.
  • Bring curiosity, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset to everyday challenges.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for someone who brings strong technical accounting skills, takes pride in accuracy, and genuinely enjoys being part of a collaborative team.

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience in public accounting, professional services, or a project-based business.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
  • Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing, reconciliations, and financial administration.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, and financial data analysis.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial management systems, with the ability to learn new platforms quickly.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing and accounting; familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is a plus.
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or providing guidance to accounting team members is preferred.
  • Interest in using technology, automation, and AI to improve processes and efficiency.
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus, but not required.

The Person Behind the Skills:

  • Proactive & Accountable: You take ownership, follow through on commitments, and recognize what needs to happen without waiting to be asked.
  • Detail-Oriented & Analytical: You care about accuracy, enjoy solving problems, and know how to connect the dots when something doesn't add up.
  • Collaborative & Personable: You enjoy working with others, building relationships, and making financial processes approachable.
  • Adaptable & Resourceful: You're comfortable wearing multiple hats, navigating changing priorities, and jumping in wherever needed.
  • Curious & Improvement-Minded: You're always looking for opportunities to learn, simplify processes, and make things better.
  • Trustworthy & Professional: You exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and approach your work with integrity.
  • Positive & Down-to-Earth: You bring a sense of humor, a team-first mindset, and the ability to have fun while getting great work done.
