Redstone GCI is searching for an experienced, independent accounting professional to join our Collaborative Accounting Team of consultants providing outsourced accounting services to government contractors. Reporting to the Director of Collaborative Accounting, the Accounting Senior Consultant will serve as a senior technical resource for the team while remaining actively engaged in billable client work. This person will lead and review accounting engagements, independently investigate unfamiliar or complex issues, and help staff resolve questions before escalation to the Director. The successful candidate will be an accountant, with strong general ledger and project accounting fundamentals and meaningful hands-on experience using Unanet. This role does not require Unanet implementation certification; it does require the ability to navigate the system, understand how transactions flow through the project ledger and general ledger, identify when results are incorrect, research the cause, and work effectively with system specialists when a technical fix is needed.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead and perform billable client work, including monthly close, account reconciliations, accruals, financial statement preparation and analysis, and project accounting activities
- Serve as a first point of escalation for staff accounting questions by evaluating the issue, guiding research, and helping determine an appropriate resolution
- Review accounting work and client deliverables for accuracy, completeness, U.S. GAAP compliance, and consistency with engagement scope, budget, and timeline
- Troubleshoot issues in Unanet by tracing transactions through project, billing, revenue, and general ledger processes; identify the likely cause and coordinate with technical specialists when needed
- Provide proactive oversight of client accounting activities, which may include cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and monthly close
- Verify, allocate, and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, project ledger, payroll, and other subsidiary accounts
- Develop and review recurring and non-recurring journal entries and monthly accruals
- Assess close and accounting processes and recommend practical improvements to accuracy, efficiency, and documentation
- Complete ad hoc and unique accounting projects without established templates or procedures by applying sound accounting judgment, research, and critical thinking
- Communicate clearly and professionally with client personnel and Redstone GCI team members, including explaining findings, recommended actions, and matters requiring escalation
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience independently owning month-end close and reviewing accounting work
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle, U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
- Meaningful hands-on experience using Unanet for accounting activities such as transaction processing, project accounting, billing or revenue, general ledger, and month-end close
- Demonstrated ability to investigate unfamiliar problems, trace transactions, research possible solutions, exercise sound judgment, and escalate appropriately
- Experience reviewing the work of others and providing practical guidance to accounting staff
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, organization, and the ability to adapt quickly across clients, systems, and accounting scenarios
- Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred qualifications include experience supporting government contractors, knowledge of FAR Part 31 cost principles, government contract billing, and payroll. Experience with QuickBooks, Costpoint, JAMIS Prime, or other accounting systems is beneficial, but candidates must already possess practical Unanet experience.
