Work for Our Water Resources.

Help protect one of Florida’s most vital resources — water — with a career at the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District).

The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources, minimize flood risks, and ensure the public’s water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law.

Join our Finance Bureau

Support the District’s Finance Bureau by managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative, and team-oriented environment. As part of the Finance Bureau team, the Accounting Supervisor provides operational leadership and technical guidance to a team of accounting professionals responsible for critical financial reporting, compliance, and accounting functions. This role oversees daily workflow, conducts technical reviews, monitors deadlines, coordinates hybrid staff operations, and ensures continued support for cashiering activities.

The Accounting Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the District’s financial records by contributing to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), month-end and year-end close processes, internal controls, and compliance with governmental accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Accounting Manager, this position provides technical expertise in complex accounting areas, including capital assets and Construction in Progress (CIP), government-wide financial reporting, self-funded medical plan accounting, GASB lease and SBITA requirements, pension and OPEB reporting, treasury reconciliations, and financial data validation across multiple systems.

The District supports employees who prefer a flexible schedule or a remote work schedule so that they can enjoy their time outside of the District through work-life balance. This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will be required to come on-site and work a portion of their time remotely (must live in Florida). Come build a career that is challenging, fulfilling, and helps support the District’s mission to protect Florida’s water resources.

District employees are offered an excellent total rewards package that includes:

  • Florida Retirement System (FRS) District Total Contribution 14.03%
  • 9 paid holidays (+ 1 floating holiday)

  • Public service loan forgiveness qualified employer
  • Tuition reimbursement ($5,250/year)
  • State adoption benefit qualified employer
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Transfer in years of service for other public sector work – towards the FRS program and sick time

Starting Compensation:
Accounting Supervisor 2 $58,410.00 - $74,945.34
Accounting Supervisor 3 $63,720.00 - $83,000.00

The starting salary range for the supervisor position reflects the minimum to 51.9% of the compensation. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
