The Accounting Supervisor leads day-to-day and month-end accounting operations, ensuring all activities are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable standards. This role provides technical accounting leadership by applying strong GAAP knowledge to guide the team, support decision-making, and keep accounting policies and procedures current and effective. The Accounting Supervisor oversees internal controls and risk management processes, identifies control gaps, and implements practical solutions that balance compliance with operational efficiency. This position also uses key performance indicators and operational metrics to drive accountability, improve team performance, and enhance process effectiveness, while championing a culture of continuous improvement and staff development.
Responsibilities- Lead daily accounting operations and the full month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate completion of all accounting activities.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and the recording of journal entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate documentation.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, providing insights that support business decisions and highlight trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Apply GAAP knowledge to guide the accounting team, interpret complex transactions, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls and risk management processes, identifying control gaps and designing effective, practical solutions.
- Use key performance indicators and operational metrics to monitor performance, drive accountability, and improve process effectiveness.
- Champion continuous improvement by proactively identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and modernize accounting processes.
- Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, providing coaching, feedback, and career development support to build skills and promote growth.
- Lead the close process and oversee a team of 2 or more accountants, ensuring clear communication of deadlines, expectations, and deliverables.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to address challenges, communicate risks, and support departmental and organizational objectives.
- Ensure general ledger integrity by reviewing entries, reconciliations, and adjustments related to fixed assets, leases, and other key accounts as needed.
- Utilize a large-scale ERP system to manage accounting transactions and reporting, and support process improvements within the system.
- Leverage advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP, to analyze data, create reports, and support decision-making.
- Support the advancement of accounting technology by embracing new tools and systems and helping the team adapt to evolving processes.
- Bachelors degree in accounting.
- At least 5 years of experience performing balance sheet reconciliations and recording journal entries.
- At least 5 years of experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
- At least 3 years of experience implementing and maintaining internal controls.
- At least 1 year of experience leading the close process and overseeing a team of 2 or more accountants.
- Experience working for a company with revenue over $100 million.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and the ability to apply it to complex accounting issues.
- Proficiency with a large-scale ERP system in an accounting environment.
- Ability to create and use pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions in Excel for analysis and reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising and developing accounting staff.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
- Experience with fixed asset and lease accounting.
- CPA certification or MBA is preferred.
- Experience with AS400 systems is a plus.
- Experience in lease accounting and fixed asset accounting beyond core requirements is beneficial.
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and process efficiency within an accounting function.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with stakeholders across the organization.
- Ability to interpret and leverage key performance indicators and operational metrics to manage performance.
- Comfort working in an environment that is advancing in technology and adopting new systems and tools.
This role is based primarily onsite, with 4 days in the office and 1 remote day each week. The remote day can be any day of the week, with reasonable scheduling guidelines to support team coverage and consistency. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
