Interim Accounts Payable Specialist - Backlog & Ledger Clean-Up Northamptonshire | £17-£19 per hour | 40 hours per week | Hybrid working | Immediate start

Are you an experienced Accounts Payable professional who enjoys getting stuck into a challenge, resolving complex queries and bringing order to an overloaded purchase ledger?

We are working with a leading agile and forward-thinking organisation who are looking for an experienced Interim Accounts Payable Specialist to join their finance team on an immediate basis, with the assignment running until the end of April 2027.

This is very much a hands-on AP clean-up role, with a key focus on tackling an existing backlog, reviewing historic transactions, clearing aged items and resolving outstanding supplier queries.

You'll play an important role in getting the purchase ledger back up to date, ensuring outstanding issues are investigated and accounts are brought back into good order.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on making a tangible difference, is confident taking ownership of a busy ledger and has previous experience of successfully clearing AP backlogs.

The Role

Working as part of the finance team, you will take ownership of a range of outstanding Accounts Payable activities, with a particular emphasis on historic ledger clean-up and query resolution.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Working through a substantial backlog of outstanding supplier invoices and purchase ledger transactions.
• Reviewing and clearing aged items and historic balances on supplier accounts.
• Investigating discrepancies, unmatched invoices, payment issues and outstanding queries.
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving long-standing differences.
• Proactively contacting suppliers and internal departments to obtain information and drive queries through to resolution.
• Identifying and correcting ledger issues to ensure supplier accounts are accurate and up to date.
• Prioritising outstanding work, managing competing demands and making measurable progress against the backlog.
• Providing general AP support as required to ensure the smooth running of the function.
  
  

About You

We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to get stuck into a busy and potentially untidy purchase ledger.

Ideally, You Will Have

• Strong, demonstrable experience within Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger.
• Previous experience of clearing significant AP backlogs or undertaking ledger clean-up projects.
• Confidence investigating historic transactions, aged balances and long-standing supplier queries.
• Strong supplier statement reconciliation and query resolution skills.
• A proactive, methodical approach, with the ability to investigate issues rather than simply process invoices.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work through high volumes of outstanding work efficiently.
• The confidence to take ownership, use your initiative and make an immediate impact.
• Availability to start immediately and commit to the assignment through to April 2027.

• 40-hour working week - 8:30am - 5:30pm
• Hybrid working - four days in the office and one day from home.
