About the Client
Our client is an Australian automotive dealership group operating across multiple dealership entities, looking for a proactive Accounts Officer to support its dealership finance function, with a primary focus on accounts payable.
About the Role
The Accounts Officer is primarily responsible for managing the dealership's accounts payable function, ensuring supplier invoices and payments are processed, reconciled and followed up accurately and on time. The role plays a key part in maintaining healthy cash flow and accurate financial records across the dealership. Over time, and with training provided, there is scope to expand into accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and deal processing and costing, making this a great role for someone looking to build broader dealership finance experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing supplier invoices accurately and efficiently, and managing timely weekly supplier payments
- Reconciling the accounts payable ledger and resolving supplier statement discrepancies
- Understanding GST implications when processing invoices, including correct coding and payment timing
- Liaising with Sales, Service, Parts and external suppliers and finance providers to resolve payables queries
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounts payable records within the Dealer Management System (DMS)
- Preparing ageing and payables reports for management
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes for the accounts payable function
- Ensuring all accounts payable activity complies with dealership policies and Australian accounting standards
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable processes
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail across high volumes of transactions
- Confident using dealer management systems and accounting software, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise deadlines
- Strong communication skills for liaising with suppliers, finance providers and internal teams
- A proactive, adaptable approach to transactional finance work
Desirable Skills
- Experience with automotive Dealer Management Systems (e.g. Pentana, Auto-IT, Titan DMS, DealerSocket, or Reynolds & Reynolds)
- Exposure to accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and/or deal processing and costing — training provided for candidates without this experience
Essential Experience
- Previous experience in an accounts payable role
- Experience processing and reconciling high volumes of financial transactions
- Experience working within Australian accounting standards and practices
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within an Australian automotive dealership finance function
- Exposure to accounts receivable and/or bank reconciliation duties
