This position is expected to begin in June 2027. Candidates with progress toward SOA credentials through successful completion of one or more actuarial exams are preferred.

This role is Under broad supervision, provides actuarial support, analytics and research for the Long-Term Care block of business. This position also participates in CNA's Actuarial Education Program which provides competitive study support while developing actuarial knowledge through credentialing exams.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Analyzes financial, statistical and mathematical data and performs actuarial calculations to identify trends driving business outcomes.
  • Assists in the execution of rate increase strategies, calculation of reserves and/or cash flow projections to support the monthly close process or supports the annual reserve and asset adequacy testing process for the LTC block of business.
  • Collaborates with business partners to gather information and assists with the preparation of material for meetings.
  • Contributes to monitoring experience trends and providing analytical insights into Long Term Care.
  • Assists in preparing variety of standard and special reports for management as needed.
  • Accountable for maintaining robust documentation.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
  • Developing technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve simple to moderately complex situations and issues; demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to effectively interact with CNA’s internal and external business partners.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete work and/or projects effectively.
  • The ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
  • Not required, but a plus: Knowledge of programming and/or data visualization tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, SAS/SQL/R, or experience with cloud based data platforms or actuarial valuation systems.
  • Preferred: Progress toward SOA credentials through successful completion of one or more actuarial exams.

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically, a minimum of one to three years related experience, which can include progress toward actuarial accreditation of one to three successfully completed SOA exams.


In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $47,000 to $78,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
