The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking adjunct instructors for the School of Social Work who are passionate about teaching and learning. Each semester, we may need part-time instructors in the undergraduate and or graduate social work programs to teach generalist social work courses and concentration courses focused on mental health and addictions. The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time social work faculty and the Chair of the School of Social Work, while accepting the following responsibilities: Responsibilities: Teaching the assigned social work course(s), this includes preparing lecture notes, presentation prep, designing assignments, assessment of student competence, and syllabus prep. May also include coordination of co-curricular activities. Participating in and recommending curriculum development and evaluation. Providing educational support for students on an as-needed basis. Participating in orientation sessions and School of Social Work planning activities, if appropriate. Providing educational support for students on an as-needed basis. Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the School of Social Work and the Dean of the College of Nursing and Human Services. Qualifications: Must have a minimum of master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accreditation program; a doctorate is preferred for teaching in the MSW program. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of post-MSW social work practice experience. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and ethical decision-making skills. Prior college teaching and field instruction supervision experience is strongly preferred. Experience using CANVAS and/or other web-based learning platform is required. Classes are offered days, evenings, and online. Positions are available in the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters on an as needed basis. Review of applications will begin immediately.
