Job Description:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for engaging prospective students and families through regional outreach, recruitment, and personalized advising. Serving as a visible representative of Dunwoody throughout the community, this role develops strong partnerships, delivers presentations, attends events, and guides students through the college exploration and admissions process. Frequent travel throughout the assigned territory is a core component of this position.


Travel Requirement: This position requires frequent travel (up to 80%) throughout the assigned Regional 2 territory, including visits to educational partners, community organizations, and outreach events. The service territory extends approximately 45 miles beyond Dunwoody's primary service area. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to travel independently throughout the assigned region.


Regional Outreach & Recruitment

  • Represent Dunwoody at educational institutions, community events, career fairs, and outreach activities throughout the assigned territory.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with high schools and community agencies and college networks in order to build a strong pool of prospects and applicants through active recruiting.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school counselors, educators, community partners, and prospective students.
  • Deliver presentations and workshops on financial aid, affordability, and college planning.
  • Support enrollment and recruitment initiatives by educating prospective students and families on financial aid opportunities and the value of a Dunwoody education.
  • Generate and follow-up on potential student inquiries with a sense of urgency to achieve enrollment results.
  • Schedule and/or attend college/career fairs and other “lead-generating” community events as representative of Dunwoody.
  • Provide favorable representation of Dunwoody programs and services to potential student applicants through knowledge of offered programs and college culture.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with high schools and community agencies and college networks in order to build a strong pool of prospects and applicants through active recruiting.

  • Counsel and advise applicants on career options as way of assessing applicants’ fit for Dunwoody programs.



Student Counseling:

  • Work closely with students and other Dunwoody departments to ensure any issues related to enrollment, financial aid, and placement are properly resolved.
  • Initiate and maintain contact and correspondence with student applicants as needed throughout the enrollment process.
  • Achieve or exceed recruitment goals by converting initial student inquiries into enrollments.

On-Campus Operations

  • In partnership with admissions team, help develop and implement effective recruitment strategies in Twin Cities and outside the suburb ring to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records on recruiting activities as outlined by established department procedures.
  • Assist with the creation and execution of articulation agreements and transfer guides with local and out of area schools.
  • Foster a positive and customer-service oriented environment within and between departments of the college.
  • Maintain awareness of best practices and sales techniques.
  • Help plan, organize and execute successful evening, on-campus or on-site recruiting events for prospective students.
  • Assist with on-campus recruitment, enrollment, and student events.
  • Complete other assignments and tasks as directed by the Director of Financial Aid.

Other Travel and Event Planning:

  • Help plan, organize and execute successful evening, on-campus or on-site recruiting events for prospective students.
  • Attend trade and industry shows with faculty as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week.
  • Valid driver license
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs and database management systems and demonstrate proficiency given adequate training.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically to develop new strategies and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher preferred.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated knowledge and experience in an admissions representative or similar position.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and tactics for recruiting prospective students.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to one week at a time, including occasional weekends.
  • Ability to work up to two evenings per week and occasional Saturdays.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week.
