Lashan Digital are hiring an AI Engineer Apprentice to join their delivery team!

AI engineers create algorithms that solve problems, take on repetitive tasks and predict future outcomes. The work covers a range of solutions, including generative AI, speech-to-text and image processing, and includes designing the infrastructure the AI runs on. You will learn on the job alongside experienced architects and data engineers, working on live client and product work.

Responsibilities:

  • Build AI models using programming languages, mainly Python

  • Test and implement AI models, working with stakeholders and product managers to agree what good looks like

  • Turn AI tools into APIs that users can integrate with other tools and software

  • Work with product development and user experience teams to support AI adoption and create AI tools that are easy to use

  • Prepare, clean and explore data to get it ready for modelling

  • Build generative AI prototypes using large language models, prompt engineering, vector databases and orchestration frameworks

  • Help deploy and monitor models in production, including tracking performance and data drift

  • Apply responsible AI practices: check for bias, protect personal data and follow security and governance requirements

  • Document your work clearly so others can understand, support and reuse it

Required skills:

  • Some programming experience, ideally in Python, from study, personal projects or work

  • A good grounding in maths, including statistics and basic algebra

  • Interest in AI and machine learning, with an example of something you have built, studied or explored

  • Clear written and spoken communication, including explaining technical ideas to non-technical people

  • A logical, curious approach to solving problems

  • Willingness to learn quickly and take feedback

Desirable experience:

  • Familiarity with libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow

  • Experience calling a large language model through an API, or building a simple prompt-based tool

  • Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure

  • Use of Git and Jupyter Notebooks

  • Interest in how AI can improve public services such as housing and social care

Entry requirements:

Acceptable qualifications include any of:

  • Two A-levels in one or more similar subject plus B in A-Level maths.

  • Two A-levels in one or more similar subject plus 2-years work experience in tech.

  • Level 4 or 5 apprenticeship in a similar technical subject.**
International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in a similar subject.

  • 3+ years in a similar subject-related role.

  • A first degree in a numerate discipline (but excluding Computer Science as not fundable).
