You will join the newly formed Digital Enablement Team within PPD, an organization of more than 400 employees across six director areas and more than 10 geographical locations. The team brings together expertise in digital implementation, data engineering, AI and the wider PPD data landscape to support scientists and business functions across the organization.

Together, we will build a strong digital foundation, establish new ways of working and create practical solutions that help scientists work more efficiently and effectively. By partnering closely with local digital teams, scientists and platform experts, we enable the adoption of scalable digital and AI solutions that create value across PPD.

The role & your impact

As an AI Engineer, you will develop and implement AI-enabled scientific workflows that help transform how research and development is conducted across Novonesis. This role combines hands-on execution with innovation, requiring both strong technical capabilities and close collaboration with scientific stakeholders. You will play a key role in translating scientific challenges into practical AI solutions that are scalable, maintainable and aligned with Novonesis enterprise platforms and data foundations.

Your key responsibilities in this role

• Build and implement AI-enabled scientific workflows that improve research activities and create measurable value for scientists.
• Design and develop solutions using enterprise AI platforms, models, data foundations and reusable components.
• Contribute to next-generation R&D initiatives that connect data, models, tools and AI capabilities into integrated end-to-end workflows.
• Work closely with scientists and local digital teams to understand user needs and iteratively develop solutions that fit real-world scientific processes.
• Support adoption, integration and lifecycle management of AI solutions to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.

What you'll need to be successful in this role

• BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, or a related technical or scientific discipline, combined with professional working proficiency in English.
• Experience developing and implementing AI, machine learning, or LLM-enabled solutions in operational or user-facing environments.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, with practical experience working with models, APIs, data pipelines, and modern software development practices.
• Experience taking AI solutions beyond proof-of-concept through testing, integration, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with scientists, software specialists, data engineers, and platform teams to develop, validate, and operationalize AI solutions.

• Strong AI problem-solving and engineering judgment, with the ability to identify where AI creates meaningful value and build reliable, maintainable solutions that deliver lasting impact.
• An experimental and learning-oriented mindset, using evidence, user feedback, and technical results to iteratively improve solutions and adapt approaches when needed.
• Excellent collaboration, curiosity, and learning agility, working effectively across scientific and technical disciplines while continuously exploring new technologies and ways of working.

Additional skills & interests we value

Experience working in scientific R&D or laboratory environments would be an advantage, as would hands-on experience with agentic AI, generative AI, and LLM-based workflows. Familiarity with enterprise AI platforms and large-scale AI implementations is beneficial, particularly when combined with an understanding of data platforms that support scientific and research operations. Candidates with an interest in applying emerging AI technologies to solve complex scientific challenges will thrive in this environment.

Working conditions

The position is based in Bagsværd, Denmark, and operates within an office-first hybrid work model. Onsite collaboration plays an important role in understanding scientific workflows, building strong stakeholder relationships, and working closely with colleagues across the organization. At the same time, we offer flexibility to work from home when compatible with team and project needs. Limited travel may be required depending on project activities and stakeholder engagement.
