As a (Senior) Data Engineer, you will join the newly established Digital Enablement Team within Product & Process Development (PPD), an organization of more than 400 employees across six director areas and more than 10 geographical locations. The team brings together expertise in digital implementation, data engineering, AI, and data platform enablement to help shape the future of digital and data-driven R&D across Novonesis.

Working closely with scientists, local digital teams, platform owners, and data specialists, you will help create scalable and reusable data solutions that strengthen scientific workflows, improve data accessibility, and accelerate innovation across PPD.

The Role & Your Impact

This is a hands-on specialist role that combines technical delivery, technical leadership, and enablement. You will work across a diverse technology landscape that combines open-source technologies and Unix-based systems with enterprise platforms such as Benchling and Databricks. You will have considerable flexibility to shape pragmatic solutions using technologies such as Python, SQL, APIs and modern data-engineering practices.

In this role, you'll make an impact by:

• Design, develop, and implement robust data pipelines, integrations, scalable data flows, and reusable engineering components that connect scientific applications, local solutions, and enterprise platforms such as Benchling and Databricks across PPD.
• Partner closely with scientists and local digital teams to understand business and scientific needs, translating them into reliable, sustainable, and high-value data solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on architecture, APIs, data quality, testing, deployment, lifecycle management, and modern data engineering practices, ensuring engineering excellence and sound technical decision-making.
• Strengthen PPD's shared data foundation by identifying reusable patterns and components, while collaborating with platform owners, AI specialists, and partner teams to resolve dependencies, promote reuse, and ensure sustainable solution ownership.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

To succeed in this role, you bring both deep technical expertise and a collaborative mindset.

You likely have:

• An MSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent qualifications gained through substantial relevant professional experience.
• Strong experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade data pipelines, integrations, and operational data solutions.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with APIs, data modeling, version control, automated testing, and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience working across multiple systems and platforms while balancing data quality, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle ownership.
• Experience collaborating with scientists, engineers, or other domain experts to develop technical solutions that solve real-world problems.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

While these qualifications are not required, they would be considered an advantage. Experience working at Novonesis or within a similarly complex R&D environment would help you quickly navigate the scientific and organizational landscape. Familiarity with scientific data, laboratory workflows, process development environments, or research systems would be beneficial, as would experience working with enterprise-scale data platforms such as Databricks. We also value exposure to AI-enabled solutions and broader data platform ecosystems, as well as experience developing reusable data engineering frameworks, standards, or shared services that enable scalability and consistency across an organization.

Ways of Working

The Digital Enablement Team operates in an office-first hybrid setup.

Being onsite is important for building strong relationships, understanding scientific workflows, and collaborating closely with stakeholders. At the same time, we support flexibility and remote work when compatible with team responsibilities and project needs.
