As generative AI tools rapidly enter the workplace, how do employees know which tools are safe, vetted, and approved to use? The AI Governance & Policy intern will help answer this question by bridging policy, technology, and user accessibility. Reporting into the AI Operations & Responsible AI team, you will take direct ownership of modernizing and managing our Approved AI Registry—transforming a growing internal inventory of tools and models into a searchable, intuitive, and user-friendly knowledge resource. You will also support the research, drafting, and plain-language editing of evolving Responsible AI standards and internal guidelines. This role is ideal for an analytical, curious student from the humanities, public policy, political science, communications, or legal studies who loves synthesizing complex information into clear, human-centered content.
- This role reports to: Technology Partner, AI Operations & Responsible AI • Chief Client Delivery Officer
- Job Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Key Accountabilities
- Approved AI Registry & Knowledge Hub: Take day-to-day ownership of maintaining our central registry of approved AI tools, services, and models. Restructure, categorize, and redesign the list so employees across the company can quickly search, understand allowed use cases, and identify restrictions.
- Intranet & Content Accessibility: Build and maintain an intuitive internal intranet portal/wiki (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence) where staff can easily navigate AI policies, FAQs, templates, and guidance documents.
- Inventory Integration: Partner across teams (AI & Data, Legal, ERM) as we build out our enterprise AI and model inventory, ensuring data connections between approved vendor tools and internal systems remain accurate and up to date.
- Policy Research & Plain-Language Editing: Review, polish, and help draft internal AI guidelines, standards, and committee briefing materials. Translate dense technical configurations and legal/regulatory nuances into clear, engaging, and accessible guidance.
- Special Projects & Emerging Technology Tracking: Conduct desktop research on emerging AI standards, regulatory developments, and industry best practices to support upcoming governance initiatives.
Must Have(s)
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate co-op program in Public Policy, Political Science, Legal Studies, Communications, Philosophy, English, History, Information Management, or an interdisciplinary technology/society program.
- A clear interest in artificial intelligence, including personal engagement with current challenges, ethical questions, or policy implications surrounding AI adoption.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex, technical, or legal subject matter and translate it into clear, plain-language documentation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and information architecture aptitude (e.g., structuring messy data/spreadsheets, categorizing inventories, or organizing intuitive documentation).
- High degree of intellectual curiosity for emerging technologies and an ownership mindset when tackling ambiguous challenges.
Nice to Have(s)
- A public GitHub repository or digital portfolio showcasing writing, research, policy briefs, or information management projects.
- Familiarity with enterprise collaboration and knowledge management tools (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence).
Notes:
- 4 month Co-op Internship: January 11, 2027 to April 30, 2027
- In order to be considered for the position, you are required to submit your Knockri Assessment
Salary Range: $20.00/hour - $23.00/hour CAD. Please note that the salary range included is a guideline only. The salary offered may vary based on factors, including, but not limited to, the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
