Why Apply to Koombea?
Did you know that Koombea is one of Latin America's fastest-growing software development companies? We help our clients all over the world build digital products that make users' lives better.
By joining our team, you will not only receive amazing benefits and become part of a flexible and innovative work culture. You will also get to share directly with some of the region's most talented and intelligent software developers.
The Job
As an AI Software Engineer, your main goal is to design, develop, and maintain intelligent software solutions powered by modern AI technologies, built on TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS. You will work on scalable, cloud-native applications that integrate AI capabilities into real-world products, helping build reliable, efficient, and innovative user experiences.
The foundation is strong software engineering combined with an AI-first mindset: solid TypeScript and Node.js fundamentals, system design intuition, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work across backend services, APIs, AWS cloud environments, and AI workflows. You will work in an AI-first engineering environment that uses tools and practices such as prompt engineering, Claude Code, spec-driven workflows (contracts.md), and AI-assisted testing.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable TypeScript/Node.js applications with AI-powered features
- Build and integrate backend services, REST/GraphQL APIs, and AI workflows into production systems on AWS
- Work with Large Language Models (LLMs), AI APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock), and modern AI frameworks
- Design and operate cloud-native and serverless architectures using AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS/SNS, and EventBridge
- Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, PMs, QA analysts, and stakeholders in cross-functional teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across software systems, AWS infrastructure, and AI integrations
- Contribute to architecture decisions, technical planning, and engineering best practices
- Maintain clean, strongly typed, well-tested, and well-documented codebases
- Work with databases, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD deployment pipelines on AWS
- Use AI tools daily to improve development workflows, debugging, documentation, testing, and productivity
- Work in spec-driven workflows using structured technical documentation and engineering specifications
- Apply prompt engineering techniques to improve AI outputs, workflows, and development efficiency
- Contribute to AI-assisted testing and modern AI-native engineering practices
- Continuously explore and adopt emerging AI technologies and engineering workflows
What You'll Bring to the Team
- 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Backend Engineer
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js in production environments
- Experience with Node.js frameworks such as NestJS, Express, or Fastify
- Solid experience with AWS (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/Fargate, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch, IAM)
- Experience integrating AI tools, AI APIs, or LLM-based solutions into applications
- Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, databases (SQL and NoSQL), and distributed systems
- Experience building scalable and maintainable backend services, including serverless and event-driven architectures
- Strong analytical thinking, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Real, daily experience using AI tools in software development workflows
- Experience with prompt engineering and AI-first development practices
- Familiarity with spec-driven workflows and structured engineering documentation (such as contracts.md)
- Familiarity with AI-assisted testing practices and AI-native engineering workflows
- Experience working with tools such as Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development environments
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest or Vitest
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Good written and spoken English communication skills
NICE-TO-HAVE
- Experience with Amazon Bedrock or other managed AI services on AWS
- Experience with AI frameworks such as LangChain.js, LlamaIndex.TS, Vercel AI SDK, or similar tools
- Experience with vector databases, embeddings, RAG architectures, or AI agents (e.g., OpenSearch, pgvector, Pinecone)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (AWS CDK, Terraform, or Serverless Framework)
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), or CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline)
- AWS certifications (e.g., Developer Associate, Solutions Architect)
- Exposure to Python or other languages, as part of a polyglot engineering mindset
- Experience working on AI-powered SaaS products or platforms
- Experience optimizing LLM cost, latency, and performance
