About Health Data Innovations

Founded in 2010, Health Data Innovations (HDI) allows providers and payers to seamlessly integrate external administrative data into their internal systems. HDI’s tech-enabled data management system and processes codify decades of knowledge to ingest, cleanse, standardize, and validate payer claims and administrative data. The system reflects HDI’s extensive experience with data from a broad spectrum of payers and vendors. By outsourcing data acquisition and integration to HDI, clients can spend more time working with the data and less time on data integration issues.

In 2023, Hughes & Company invested in HDI to build on the company’s success enabling healthcare providers in value-based care arrangements. HDI provides clients with mission-critical data that is necessary for contractual obligations and underpins programs of substantial value. As risk-based arrangements proliferate and increase in complexity, HDI’s differentiated technology is a critical tool to enable the success of these programs.

The Role

We're looking for an AI Solutions Engineer to build and run the AI tools, integrations, and workflows that put AI to work across HD Innovations, and to lead our move to agentic AI. Our AI initiative is already live: enterprise AI assistants and coding tools, a private model gateway on Amazon Bedrock, custom connectors to our business systems, and local models running on our own GPU hardware. Our next step is AI agents that take action across our systems, and we want to get there quickly.

This is a hands-on role on a small team. Most of your time goes to building AI solutions and agents; the rest goes to the infrastructure they run on, including cloud services, identity, servers, and GPU hosts, all in a security-first, HITRUST-governed environment.

Why This Role

• Build AI that does real work across the whole business, not just one department

• Work directly with executives and every function at HDI to find where AI can make the biggest difference

• Shape how HDI adopts AI — your ideas influence the roadmap

• Build agents that handle complex work in a high-stakes, regulated healthcare environment

What You'll Do

• Work with business users to find processes where AI can help, and decide the right approach: an assistant, an AI-assisted workflow, or an agent

• Build and improve AI-assisted workflows, skills, and plugins that put AI into everyday processes

• Lead the move to agentic AI: design, build, and deploy agents and multi-step workflows using tool use / function calling, prompt and context design, and agent frameworks

• Build and support Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, database bridges, and Microsoft 365 integrations so AI tools and agents can safely reach the data and systems they need

• Test and evaluate AI output for accuracy and reliability, and catch regressions before they reach users

• Build in guardrails, least-privilege permissions, human-in-the-loop approvals, and audit logging, especially where AI touches sensitive healthcare data

• Own AI solutions in production: monitor behavior, usage, and cost; troubleshoot issues; and version, maintain, and retire them

• Write scripts and code, mainly in Python, managed through Git and pull-request review

• Track new models, agent frameworks, and vendor releases; run proofs of concept and recommend what to adopt

• Support the infrastructure behind our AI services, including Amazon Bedrock, Entra ID / SSO, Linux and Windows servers, VMs, and GPU hosts

• Write clear documentation, runbooks, and guides that stand up to compliance audits

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years in IT infrastructure, systems administration, DevOps, or software development

• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or AI agents (tool use, MCP, multi-step workflows), from work, prototypes, or personal projects

• Experience with LLM APIs or cloud AI platforms (Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Vertex AI)

• Solid Linux skills (RHEL or Ubuntu), plus working knowledge of Windows Server and Docker

• Networking and security fundamentals: firewalls, segmentation, least privilege

• Scripting and automation skills (Python preferred; PowerShell or Bash a plus)

• Experience integrating with APIs, databases, and business systems

• Familiarity with Git workflows and code review

• Curiosity about AI and the discipline to turn experiments into reliable, documented systems

• Ability to work independently, manage your own priorities, and support non-technical users in a small-team environment

Preferred:

• Building MCP servers or using agent frameworks

• Experience taking an agent from prototype to production

• Experience testing and evaluating LLM output

• Software development experience in Python, Go, or TypeScript

• RAG pipelines and vector databases (pgvector, Qdrant, Chroma, Milvus)

• Experience with Entra ID / Azure AD, SSO, and OAuth 2.0 / OIDC

• Experience working under a compliance framework such as HITRUST, HIPAA, SOC 2, or ISO 27001

• AWS IAM, cost management, and Bedrock guardrails

• Local AI experience: running open-weight models with vLLM or llama.cpp on NVIDIA GPUs, including vGPU or GPU passthrough

• Remote Desktop Services, Azure Arc, and virtualization (VMware, Proxmox, or Hyper-V)

• OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Grafana

• MySQL Server or PostgreSQL administration

• Microsoft Graph API

• Terraform, Ansible, or Packer

Tech You'll Work With

Claude (Desktop, Code) · Amazon Bedrock · Model Context Protocol · Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365 · Azure Arc · Windows Server 2025 RDS · Forgejo · OpenTelemetry · Python and Go · Docker · Proxmox with NVIDIA vGPU · vector databases · VMware vSphere · RHEL and Ubuntu

In-Office Expectations

While this is a hybrid role, periodic in-office presence in Cleveland is required. This includes attendance at team meetings and onboarding/training sessions, as well as scheduled visits to collaborate with stakeholders during planning and rollout phases.
