AI Tech Lead

BettingJobs is partnering with a fast-growing AI technology business to recruit an AI Tech Lead in Malta on a hybrid basis. Our client has built an agentic orchestration platform that brings multiple LLMs, intelligent agents, automation and event-driven workflows together in one place, helping organisations run complex processes on reliable, scalable AI. As AI Tech Lead, you will own the architecture and engineering standards behind the platform's AI capabilities while staying close to the code. You will lead decisions across AI agents, LLM orchestration, RAG and backend services, mentor a team of AI engineers and work alongside Product and Engineering to turn ambitious ideas into production-ready systems. The role suits a hands-on technical leader who wants real influence over how a platform evolves and enjoys growing the people around them.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical direction and architecture of the company's AI solutions, setting standards for scalable, secure and reliable systems.
• Design and build AI agents, LLM workflows and RAG solutions, guiding the use of orchestration frameworks, memory systems, retrieval pipelines and tool integrations.
• Oversee Python-based backend services, APIs and AI integrations, with a focus on performance, observability and cost efficiency.
• Mentor AI engineers, review technical designs and champion engineering best practice.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to deliver AI-driven solutions, and evaluate emerging technologies to keep the platform ahead.

Requirements:

• Strong hands-on experience in AI agent development, LLM integration and RAG systems.
• Advanced Python and backend development skills.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex or similar frameworks.
• Solid knowledge of vector databases, APIs and production AI systems.
• Experience designing evaluation, testing and guardrail frameworks for LLM applications.
• Strong problem-solving, systems thinking and technical communication skills.
• Desirable: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP/Azure or serverless; monitoring, data pipelines and AI governance; prior mentoring or technical leadership experience.
