AI Tech Lead (Golang)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our fast-growing engineering team. The role is suited to a skilled Golang Developer who will play a central role in building the foundation of our backend systems, including the infrastructure that connects our AI systems to production data and services. You will take ownership of the Ennismore API, powering our ever-evolving e-commerce platform (a platform generating several millions in sales per week), and you'll help build and own the MCP (Model Context Protocol) layer that lets AI agents safely and reliably interact with our core systems.

This is an influential role in our Tech team, sitting at the intersection of our core backend and our emerging AI initiatives. We're looking for an experienced individual who relishes the chance to challenge themselves in a progressive tech environment, with plenty of scope to shape how AI safely integrates with production systems as we look to double the size of the team.

What you'll do...

• Play a central role in building the foundation of the Ennismore backend system
• Act as the owner of the Ennismore API which powers our e-commerce system (and generates sales of more than 4M Euro per week)
• Write services using Golang, using Connect (gRPC) for inter-service communication and Temporal for async communication
• Design, build, and own MCP (Model Context Protocol) server components and tool contracts: the API surface that AI agents use to interact with our systems
• Build and maintain integrations from the MCP layer into our internal APIs and backend systems, exposing well-defined, safe tools rather than raw data access
• Implement authentication, authorisation (RBAC), and audit logging so that AI/agent access to production systems is secure by design
• Design guardrails at the tool-call layer: validating what each tool is allowed to do, enforcing rate limits, and blocking out-of-scope or anomalous requests before they reach a backend system
• Partner with AI/ML and product teams to wire MCP tools into AI agents, and expose the right tools and data contracts as new AI initiatives come online
• Own and maintain documentation for MCP tool contracts: API signatures, auth requirements, and usage guidance
• Work in an agile environment (comfortable estimating tickets and working in sprints)

What we're looking for...

• Passionate about technology, with a breadth of professional experience using Golang (amongst others)
• Ability to write straightforward, well-engineered, fully tested, and reliable code
• Exposure to the gRPC framework or similar
• Experience with microservice architecture
• Hands-on experience implementing MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or tools, or directly comparable experience building tool-calling/function-calling layers or agent-orchestration infrastructure for LLM-based systems
• Experience integrating LLMs or AI agents into production systems - shipped production experience, not just prototyping
• Solid understanding of API security patterns: authentication, authorisation, RBAC, and audit logging for systems that broker access to sensitive data
• Track record of optimising for low latency in production APIs
• Ideally, some understanding of or hands-on experience with TypeScript
