WHO WE ARE

We believe this moment requires transformative change.

The climate crisis is here. And Black, Indigenous and people of color have been bearing the burden of our pollution-based economy for generations. We have the solutions to stop climate change, but we lack the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s needed.

EnviroVoters exists to build the political will and power to solve the climate crisis, use climate action to advance justice, and create a global roadmap. To protect our water, land, air, and our most vulnerable communities, we organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change.

Our vision is to build resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and create a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) and EnviroVoters Education Fund are excited to launch a search for Youth Ambassadors to join our dynamic, fun, and high-performing team!

The Ambassadors at EnviroVoters Education Fund are the leaders of the campaign — WE CAN: Water Equity and Clean Air Now! Their campaign tackles the severe inequities surrounding water equity and clean air in the Central Valley, Inland Empire, Sacramento and the Sierra Nevada regions by supporting youth leadership at the forefront of fighting for these issues.

The Central Valley, Inland Empire, Sacramento and Sierra Nevada regions have some of the nation’s worst air quality, especially from warehouses, oil production, mining, and agriculture. Long-term health risks like respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and impaired cognitive functioning will severely impact our community if we do not act now.

That is why we are calling for all youth aged 18 to 30 to join our team. By joining, you will participate in a nine-month cohort program where together you will learn how to build grassroots power for the environment and climate justice, which includes advocacy for a youth climate board to give young people a voice in local decision-making and community education and outreach to achieve environmental justice for our communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commit to working an average of 10 to 12 hours per week, with occasional weeks of up to 15 hours during events, retreats, or campaign pushes.
  • Attend weekly online meetings to build skills in grassroots organizing, public speaking, and advocacy, complete administrative tasks, and collaborate with your cohort. Meet in person with your regional cohort at least once a month.
  • Coordinate with your cohort and plan the next phase of the Water Equity and Clean Air Now! Campaign (WE CAN!) to push for youth climate boards in your respective regions.
  • Collaborate with the regional organizers on their campaigns to increase youth engagement in local policy issues.
  • Develop social media content that amplifies local voices, shares success stories, and promotes initiatives that address pressing challenges facing young people and the environment.
  • Develop and lead community initiatives and run grassroots organizing campaigns to advance solutions for community-identified environmental issues and advocate for a vibrant, sustainable, and healthy environment.
  • Foster increased youth participation and leadership in civic processes and actively advocate for policies shaped and led by youth. Support initiatives that cultivate youth leadership and expand opportunities for young people to influence decision-making at all levels.
  • Plan and coordinate events, including but not limited to workshops, informational sessions, volunteer recruitment, and forums aimed at engaging students, youth, community members and to recruit volunteers on issues of clean air and water, and youth civic participation.
  • Expand awareness on climate, environmental policies, environmental justice, and other local issues through digital organizing and social media advocacy.
  • Increase youth civic participation through issue-based organizing and nonpartisan get out the vote activities.
  • Meet with local elected officials and state legislators in their respective regions and in Sacramento to advocate for sustainability initiatives, environmental justice issues, and the importance of youth involvement.
  • Participate and attend the two staff retreats in the Los Angeles and Sacramento areas, one in winter and one in spring.
  • And other duties as assigned.
