Show job description

The Analyst, Health Care Consulting, is a client-facing role on the VBC Enablement team that supports client and internal initiatives through analytics and project management, particularly those that involve COPE Health Solutions’ Analytics for Risk Contracting (ARC) platform. The Analyst independently structures ambiguous problems, conducts rigorous financial, data and policy analysis, and translates findings into clear, client-ready recommendations that help health plans, provider organizations and health systems succeed in value-based care arrangements.

The Analyst works directly with clients, providers, executives, vendors and other stakeholders on internal and external consulting engagements, including ARC implementations. The role requires sound judgment, a willingness to learn quickly and the discipline to validate and quality-check one's own work, and the capacity to own defined analytical workstreams from scoping through delivery with limited supervision. The Analyst works under the guidance of senior team members and takes on increasing ownership of analytical and client engagement work over time.

Position Description:
  • Independently frame client questions into structured analytical approaches: define the problem, form hypotheses, identify required data, select methods and outline expected outputs before beginning work
  • Build and maintain financial and analytical models in Excel to evaluate value-based arrangements, including total cost of care, medical loss ratio, shared savings and risk scenarios, utilization trends and provider performance
  • Analyze large claims, eligibility, quality and financial datasets; identify trends, outliers and root causes; and explain what is driving results, not only what the results are
  • Conduct strategic policy analysis related to CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, CMMI models and related programs, and assess the financial and operational implications of policy changes for specific clients
  • Validate data sources and assumptions, perform reasonableness and reconciliation checks, and document methodology so that work can be reviewed, reproduced and defended to clients
  • Recognize when results are inconsistent, incomplete or illogical, investigate the cause, and escalate risks or limitations proactively

Client deliverables and communication

  • Support ARC implementations and onboarding for new clients, including coordinating data intake, tracking data feeds and validating claims, eligibility and other data loaded into the platform
  • Use ARC to prepare client performance reporting and analyses (for example, cost and utilization, quality gaps, attribution and risk adjustment) and help clients interpret what the results mean for their value-based arrangements
  • Synthesize analytical findings into concise, actionable recommendations and draft client-ready slides, memos and reports with minimal revision required
  • Present analytical findings and methodology to internal teams and, as appropriate, to client stakeholders, and respond to questions about the analysis
  • Assist in the development of proposals, project deliverables, white papers and other business materials, contributing original analysis and content

Project execution

  • Own defined analytical workstreams from scoping through delivery, developing workplans with milestones and completing work according to plan and timeline
  • Meet with the assigned supervisor and consulting team to understand project goals, expected outcomes and client context
  • Know and comply with firm quality standards; recognize and raise risks pertinent to assigned work, including at-risk deliverables, deadlines and quality issues
  • Work closely with members of the Consulting team and staff to accomplish the goals, objectives and strategic plans for the company

Firm contribution

  • Maintain understanding of the firm's service lines and offerings and differentiating factors relative to main competitors
  • Support business development initiatives at the Analyst level, including market and client research, joining BD calls, analytical support for proposals, editing articles for publication and networking activities
  • Actively seek mentoring and professional growth opportunities; receive feedback openly and demonstrate measurable improvement based on feedback
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and ethical standards
  • Additional responsibilities to be determined based on team and project needs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in health care administration, public health, economics, finance, statistics, business or a related quantitative field (master’s degree, MHA, MPH, or MBA preferred)
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in health care analytics, health care consulting, health plan or provider finance, or a comparable analytical role
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and solve ambiguous, multi-step analytical problems with limited direction, as evidenced by prior work product and a case or modeling exercise during the interview process
  • Advanced Excel skills, including building multi-tab financial models, lookup and array functions, pivot tables, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and model auditing
  • Familiarity and ability to leverage provided AI tools to support research, analysis and model builds
  • Working knowledge of health care financing and value-based payment concepts, such as fee-for-service versus capitation, shared savings, risk adjustment, total cost of care and quality measures
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to distill complex analysis into clear executive-level summaries and recommendations
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to quality-checking one's own work
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, client-service environment
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, CMMI models (for example, ACO REACH or MSSP) or related programs preferred
  • Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims, eligibility or encounter data preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, SAS or similar tools, and in data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau preferred
  • Prior client-facing consulting experience preferred
