Help shape the future of Analytics Engineering at Royal London. We’re looking for a Lead Analytics Engineer to support and develop our engineers while guiding delivery across a varied, enterprise-wide portfolio of data projects.
You’ll initially lead a team of around five colleagues, with the potential for the team to grow. Combining people leadership with technical understanding, you’ll help engineers develop their skills, turn requirements into achievable plans and deliver reusable data solutions.
This isn’t a heavily hands-on engineering role, your focus will be on supporting people and coordinating delivery, but you will be using your data expertise to guide the team across different projects and business areas.
- Lead, mentor and develop Analytics Engineers, supporting their learning and progression.
- Take responsibility for analytics engineering delivery across multiple projects.
- Translate requirements into clear tasks, coordinate priorities and support delivery through agile practices, delivery boards and scrum meetings.
- Guide the development of data solutions that support current, and anticipate future, needs across the organisation.
- Support work spanning data migration, new data sources, improving our enterprise data products, and dimensional data warehouse reporting models.
- Keep pace with developments in data and technology, encouraging learning and exploring opportunities such as natural-language and AI agents.
You’ll bring an enthusiasm for data and associated AI, a collaborative approach, and the ability to support people while keeping delivery moving. We’re looking for:
- Experience leading or coordinating engineers, with evidence of mentoring, supporting development or helping others deliver.
- Experience taking ownership of data products or deliveries, breaking down work and managing priorities across projects.
- A strong understanding of CI/CD processes, SQL, pySpark and experience of modern enterprise cloud-based data environments including Azure and Databricks.
- Sufficient technical understanding to guide engineers and translate delivery requirements into work for the team.
- Experience of managing technical deliveries using Agile methodologies and tools such as ADO or JIRA.
- Good knowledge of data governance and the expectations of working in a regulated environment.
- Curiosity about emerging technology and an interest in developing approaches that can be reused across different data domains.
Experience that would be helpful
Azure and Databricks experience would be valuable. Financial services experience is strongly preferred, although experience in another highly regulated sector may also be relevant.
You may already be working at Lead level, or you could be a Principal / Senior Engineer ready to take the next step. If you’ve a passion for data and coordinated other engineers, owned deliveries and supported agile ways of working, we’d welcome the opportunity to hear about your leadership experience.
Join an expanding data team where you can influence how we work, develop others and help shape future data delivery. You’ll gain exposure across Royal London rather than focusing on a single business area.
- Work in a modern data environment that includes Databricks, GitHub CoPilot, Microsoft CoPilot and Databricks Genie.
- Contribute to an increasingly AI-ready data environment, including exploration and development of Agentic AI to help explore the power of our data assets.
- Build your leadership experience while helping a growing team learn and develop.
- Shape reusable solutions across a broad portfolio of migration, customer analytics and reporting initiatives.
Interested in helping people and data delivery grow together? We’d love to hear how your experience could contribute to our Analytics Engineering team.
“If you feel you’d be a great fit for Royal London but don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Research shows some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria - if you meet most requirements and are keen to learn, we encourage you to apply!“
