Android Developer (Freelance Contract) – Hungary

Contract Length: Until the end of March (5 months)
Start Date: Immediate ASAP
Day Rate: 120,000 HUF – 160,000 HUF per day
Location: Hungary (Essential), Remote Working

The Opportunity:

We're looking for an Android Engineer to join our Software team and help design, build, and evolve the native Android apps that players and coaches rely on, on the training pitch, on match day, and everywhere in between.

This is a product-focused role where you'll take ownership of features end-to-end, from Bluetooth communication with our wearable GPS devices and data sync through to polished, user-facing experiences in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. You'll work closely with Product Owners, designers, and our iOS and backend engineers, and you'll have real scope to bring AI-powered features to life, both on-device and through our AWS generative AI stack.

If you're enthusiastic, curious, love solving problems creatively, and follow the sport as closely as you follow the tech, this role is for you.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing, building, testing, and supporting native Android applications in Kotlin, using Jetpack Compose and modern Android architecture (MVVM, Coroutines, Flow)

  • Building reliable Bluetooth Low Energy communication with our wearable devices, pairing, data transfer, and background sync using foreground services and WorkManager, across the wide range of Android devices our players use

  • Building and integrating AI-powered features, consuming services built on AWS Bedrock, and exploring on-device capabilities such as ML Kit and Gemini Nano

  • Integrating with our serverless backend APIs and designing for offline-first use, with solid caching and sync (e.g. Room) so the app works on the side of a pitch with patchy signal

  • Owning and improving the release pipeline, Gradle builds, CI/CD, Play Console testing tracks, and staged rollouts

  • Writing meaningful unit and UI tests (JUnit, Compose UI testing, Espresso) and taking responsibility for the reliability, performance, and battery impact of what you ship

  • Collaborating with Product Owners, designers, and our iOS team to turn ideas into working features that provide meaningful insight to players and coaches, consistently across platforms

  • Bringing creative, outside-the-box thinking to problems

  • Working within an Agile environment, actively taking part in planning, reviews, and continuous delivery

What We're Looking For:

You'll likely enjoy this role if you:

  • Have experience building and shipping native Android apps in Kotlin, and are comfortable with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines / Flow, and dependency injection (Hilt or similar)

  • Understand the Android platform well, app lifecycle, background execution limits, runtime permissions, and dealing with device and OS-version fragmentation

  • Have experience with Android's Bluetooth LE APIs or connected-device / wearable apps (a big plus), and ideally Health Connect, location services, or Room

  • Are comfortable consuming REST APIs and working alongside backend engineers; exposure to AWS (S3, serverless, Bedrock) is a bonus

  • Have some familiarity with iOS or Swift; not essential, but it helps when working closely with our iOS team

  • Have used AI tools as part of your own development workflow, and are curious about applying AI within a product

  • Love to learn, AI is moving fast, and you actively keep on top of it: trying new models and tools, following releases, experimenting in your own time, and bringing what you find back to the team

  • Are enthusiastic to learn, keen to take ownership as you grow, and happy to get stuck in

  • Enjoy solving problems creatively and thinking outside the box rather than just following a spec

  • Are genuinely into sport, whether that's playing fantasy football, deep in Football Manager or FIFA/EA FC, following coaching and tactics, or just a lifelong fan; you'll understand our users because you are one

  • Communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating across product, design, and engineering

  • Can reason through problems and articulate your thinking clearly, and collaborate with external teams like Support and Product to get to the bottom of issues fast, often working from limited information (a crash report, a device model, a vague description) to debug and unblock without putting extra strain on other departments

  • Can quickly tell the difference between a genuine support/technical issue and user error, and know how to investigate and communicate that clearly

  • Have personal or side projects you're proud of, an app on Google Play, something you built for yourself or your team, an open-source contribution, or anything that shows what you've learned and built outside of work; we'd love to hear about it and see it

What's In It For You:

  • A product-focused role building AI-powered mobile apps used by players at scale

  • Ownership of meaningful features from concept through to delivery

  • Hands-on experience with connected wearable hardware, modern Android tooling, and cutting-edge AWS AI services

  • A culture that values curiosity, autonomy, learning, and a genuine love of sport

  • The chance to see your work in players' pockets every day
