Position: Animal Cruelty Investigator Classification: Regular Full-time (Non-Exempt), Skill Band C Location: Hybrid – Remote & Onsite in Monroe, WA Reports to: Investigations & Rescue Manager The Animal Cruelty Investigator supports successful animal cruelty investigations and rescue operations for Pasado’s Safe Haven by seeking to improve the response to crimes against animals in our mission to end animal cruelty. This position will work closely with the Investigations & Rescue team to conduct case investigations, build relationships with external stakeholders including law enforcement and animal control, and support training events for a variety of audiences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Respond to animal cruelty cases including but not limited to undercover investigations, investigative research, and assisting law enforcement on responses. Compile professional Investigator’s Report for cases when working with law enforcement and prosecutors. Provide testimony on cases when they go to trial. Manage the upkeep and organization of all cases worked; ensure investigations are complete and well organized. Input data and maintain accurate records in the I&R database. Assure photos and video are regularly transferred from devices and placed into case files. Work with I&R Manager, sanctuary staff, clinic staff etc. on a variety of functions within the program. Answer, log, and route incoming cruelty calls, emails, and phone calls in an expeditious manner. Monitor cruelty cell phone while on duty and when on call for emergency cell phone. Work with law enforcement agencies and vet offices statewide to expand PSH network of partners and to create training opportunities. Assist I&R Manager with law enforcement training opportunities where possible. When requested, correspond with Prosecutors, Law Enforcement, Public officials, Media, and general public in a professional manner. Support Communications, Development and Outreach departments with case materials, and supportive documentation when possible or needed. Expand animal rescue organization and veterinarian network partnerships. Create and manage special programs, working with I&R Manager. Other Responsibilities: Continually grow knowledge and understanding of current Washington State Animal Control laws. Participate in legislative events, general events, and fundraising activities as needed. Maintain case confidentiality at all times. Required Skills/Qualifications: Experience in animal cruelty investigation, private investigation or law enforcement. Education and experience/training working with animals. Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Must be comfortable working with many species of animals. Must be a hard worker with common sense, able to think under pressure and make educated decisions for the organization and the animals involved. Must be a self-starter and able to prioritize effectively, possess strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to write legibly. Strong administrative and technical skills, with the ability to effectively use databases and case management systems, and consistently maintain thorough, accurate, and timely case documentation. Must be able to work independently. Must understand and accurately follow medical directions. Must be detail oriented. Exceptional people management and communication skills; must be respectful, compassionate, and patient with all animals, volunteers and co-workers; convey a positive attitude, maintain a calm professional demeanor and remain non-emotional during stressful situations (e.g., animal emergencies, suspect confrontation, etc.). Must be able to handle many tasks simultaneously. Must be able to handle high levels of stress and maintain focus and positive attitude. Must be comfortable working with and under the command of law enforcement officials in a professional and respectful manner. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal care and welfare and be willing to perform a variety of physical tasks in all types of weather and conditions. Must have a valid Washington state driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record. This position can require long days of driving for case investigation and response throughout the state and may require the regular use of a personal vehicle. Appropriate mileage reimbursement will be offered. The use of a company vehicle may be allowed under certain circumstances, such as for rescues. A strong candidate has a flexible schedule. Must be able to emotionally handle disturbing animal situations. Able to perform requested animal care tasks. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and improve animal care skills and knowledge. Must be a team player; able to work with all types of people. Employment: Full time, Non-Exempt (36 hours per week) four 9-hour days $60,320 - $99,840 ( paid hourly rate ) Hybrid schedule: remote and onsite at our sanctuary in Monroe, WA Occasional travel required Occasional weekend and evening coverage required Pasado’s Safe Haven provides equal employment opportunity.
